BlueMeanie
Good day! i just want to ask the guys here who's had some experience with strap locks. I've been looking at this Dunlop brand..Have any of you tried this on a casino? I wanted to try the nickel colored ones to better match the Revolution IBJL.. http://www.amazon.com/Dunlop-Design-Straplok-System-Nickel/dp/B0002CZVXM Are these strap locks quick attach/re-attach types? Pls give advise on any other strap locks you guys might have used! I'd really like to get the best value for the $ Thanks! Luis

peeper
I forget what they're called or who makes em. But I like the leather kind that loops over your strap and screws into the guitar in place of the stock button. They are very unobtrusive on guitars like that with the button on the heel. jwalin
Don't like the Dunlops....they rattle. I always used Schaller ones, but tonight I am going to try out a pair of Grolsch 'straplocks.' Jeff

peeper
I use Schallers on everything else and the tail of my sg and sherry.
BlueMeanie
Looks like the dunlops fit of different types of epi's. Peter, thanks for the Marvel tip. Are the casino screws the same as any other epi? Is the Schaller and dunlop strap locks the same in terms of design?

I've never had a problem with Dunlops rattling and I have 8 sets. Use whatever you like, but I would stick with the same brand, that way you can use the same strap with multiple guitars. Bender 4 Life
I use Schallers on my Les Paul, Tele,& Strat styled bodys with the button on the horn, because the "horse-shoe trough"(when installed correctly on the strap) will keep the guits off the floor, even if the spring/lock fails. All my guits with the heel mounted button .....SG, Flying-V, Sheraton II, Etc. use Dunlops, because the strap piece is flat, not pointed. I've never had any problem, nor an "incident" with either brand. Just be absolutely SURE that you hear the Dunlop type go "snap", and give it a "test tug or 2"........otherwise it may not be seated, and the strap pull right off the guitar. So you dont have to spend $15 to buy a whole damn set with the strap part! Im kicking myself for not knowing it before i bought 8 sets myself when id need just one straplok set for the strap part and could have just used the buttons for the rest.... coulda saved some dough. LOL ya live and ya learn... And i fell victim to the Grolsh beer washer idea.... My new LP ultra is getting the grolsh treatment lol
BlueMeanie
Thanks for the quick replies guys! I have no idea why it's only now that i find the importance of a strap lock. Btw, what do you guys think of this type of Dunlop Lok strap? http://www.amazon.com/Dunlop-Ergo-Lok-Strap-System/dp/B0017N5C9I/ref=sr_1_12?ie=UTF8&s=musical-instruments&qid=1260710479&sr=8-12 It seems pretty simple..almost like the Grolsh Beer idea! Strumbone
Has anyone every tried the Ibanez winged strap buttons? They are not locks, but look much more secure than the standard round buttons. I've seen some on the older artist series and look as though they would do the trick nicely. peeper
^^ If you mean the ones shaped like a delta, then those rock. They'll bite you if you arent careful, but as long as you have a fairly tuff strap, they are almost as good. I wouldn't recommend them for thinline semi hollows though. peeper
The just poke ya is all. I don't like anything protruding from the back of the guitar. The kind I use for semis, SGs and the like are totally flush.
Strumbone
Ahh, OK. I can see how they could snag you...that's also what makes 'em secure.
peeper
Indeed, on a strat or LP type guitar, they are almost as secure as schallers as long as you have a fairly robust strap.
Stig
There are these leather strap locks you can get, but they're kind of hard to find. They screw into the guitar, and are made of a strip of folded leather with a strap button that you put your strap on, then also put the folded back piece of leather over the button. They're kind of old-school looking, very secure, and don't require any modification to your strap. I use them on a bunch of my guitars, including my Casino. Typically, I only use them at the neck, and just use the butt end strap button. Here, finally found someone who sells them. http://stores.ebay.com/OBRIENS-WORLD-EAST
peeper
^^^ Thats them. I also only use them at the neck, but I use Schallers for the tail.
