Which case to buy

In my opinion, anything better than an Epiphone case is really designed for heavy-duty protection - airplanes, tour busses, etc. Epiphone cases (of which I own two) are plywood and certainly capable of protecting your guitar for day-to-day use. The tolex may start to tear, but it will take some serious damage to break the wood.

I also agree on the quality of Epi cases. If you do' date=' in fact, need more than that, [i']nothing[/i] beats an LP case from SKB. Military grade moulded plastic with TSA locks.

$129 at your local GC! [crying]

I agree..i just purchased an SKB, brought my guitar on a Trans pacific route from SFO to Manila. the case arrived in great condition, and my casino in an even better pristine condition! The SKB cases have protection against moisture and extreme cold temps! based on the underbelly of a 747 that is :-({|=

Heck, I'll stick up for Gator cases. I think they're superb. I have one for my acoustic guitar, and I recently bought one for my new bass.

However, the SKB cases Jim mentioned are great too. I have the Fender-branded version of these for my Strat and Tele, and they are also very good.

The Epiphone cases are, perhaps, more pleasing to look at - the wood and vinyl construction gives them a nice traditional vibe. But I do believe that the ABS (plastic) cases made by Gator and SKB are much more robust.

In your position, I'd probably go with the Gator. They are very tough, and very good value for money. They are also within your $100 budget, as they retail for around $85.

simply put, as long as its a hard case it should do the job, particularly if your hobbying and not doing much gigging and transporting of the guitar. i have a gator case for my fender tele and my other 3 cases are black vinylon wood with brass fittings, not sure of the brand as they are not marked. Fairly standard kind of design with a ver plush interior with a small closable storage space. i dont gig with mine but i needed good hard cases to get two of my guitars from scotland to canada. my guitars are all in there cases when not being used..most accidents are down to carelessness or not taking the time to put things where they belong

I have an Epi and Gator case. The Gator is for my Dot. I prefer the Epi case, just because of the looks. The Gator will probably not show as much wear over time because of the material it is made from. I have an SKB case, style like the Gator shown above, for an acoustics. I don't like it, the case is warped a little and it doesn't seal.

I have had an SKB case for years and it has held up well.

Another option are the cases sold by Rondomusic.com. The tan colored ones are just like the Epiphone cases, for less money.....and they look nicer, in my opinion. They do have the shroud cover- but that is easily removed.

The Epi case is definitely a good case. Anything beats nothing, even a gig bag. An Epi case is just about as good as it gets for an OHSC. Better protection can be had from either Gator or SKB. At this level about the only real determining factors are how much you and your ax travel and how deep your pockets are.

I sprung for a Gator LP case for my LPDC. The case seals well, has a generous accessories compartment under the neck and offers a snug fit around the body. I did have to put a towel under the body to relieve stress on the neck at the neck support. This was because the body is thinner than a standard LP but I usually keep a towel or soft cloth in the case to wipe down the guitar after playing so this one does double duty.

The only case I have is the Epi case for my Dot and very good it is too. All my other guitars are on stands - meaning that if I want to grab and play the Dot doesn't get that much action but I do want to preserve it in as close to showroom condition as possible. If I were too get a case for the LP's I would get an Epi one (on the basis that the Dot one is very good and I like the brand on the outside to match what is inside).

Thank you everyone for the quick replies! I appreciate it very much. Don't ask me which one I'm going with though. lol Music and Arts has an Epiphone LP case for $ 49.00. I like all the cases you guys mentioned. For $49.00 bucks I could buy it and if I don't like it I'll put it on ebay. lol Thanks again.

As long as it fits well and the guitar isn't bouncing around inside of the case, any hardshell case should do just fine.
