Epiphone Texan

Hi y'all,

For everyone who wonders how the sunburst inspired by Texan looks like in real, here you go, I'm stunned, it looks nothing like on the pictures...

BTW: Thomann sent me an E-Mail telling, that my guitar has been sent out, I hope it's a good one! :-k

Yeah' date=' I saw one of those in a store...it was absolutely beautiful. The finish is spectacular. Being a Beatle fanatic, I'm buying the natural finish; but damn, that burst sure is fine when you see it in the flesh.[/quote']

I finally got to see and play one of each also at my local Sam Ash. The burst looks really nice in person. The natural has a nice antique look to it.

They both sounded very nice and very Gibson like rather than the Masterbuilts that have a more Martin tone to them.

If it was not for the recession I would have been happy to have bought either.

I think you will be very happy when it arrives.

the only thing I'm concerned about is it having a badly matched top with one of those ugly lines in the middle... I cannot stand this... Worst case' date=' I send it back and request another one, specificly looked at from the guys at Thomann... =D[/quote']

John,

The couple I saw at Sam Ash had very nice matched tops, had to look hard to see the line.

The Hummingbird Artist I saw at GC and have posted on also had a very nice bookmatched top also. The MIC stuff has come a very long way from the not so great start.

well on the same site I've seen the gorgeous cherry sunburst one' date=' I also saw this....

and they also have a Roy Orbison with badly matched top....

Yeah that is not too good and nothing like the ones I saw.

I know it sucks for guys who don't live in a market like I do, Chicago, to see the stuff. Acoustic guitars are such a personal purchase. You have to really see and play them. Two of the same models might sound completly different.

I hope you get a good one.

Well, it's not really poorly matched so much as it was milled. Thats grain run out you are seeing there, it ain't "really" a line. See how one side is darker than the other? If you were to turn it upside down (in person keeping the light source in the same place)the light and dark would flip.

Why bother to recreate a Texan and ruin the sound with electronics? If I want an Electric Acoustic I'll buy an EJ-160 E. And probably will. But I've been waiting to buy a reissue Texan for a long time. But if it's not a pure acoustic, I probably won't. And if I have to spend the money for an original Texan acoustic, I may as well spend the money for a Gibson J160 E for an Acoustic/Electric. So where does that leave Epiphone. I guess there's always the Casino. But Signature, or Inspired? It'd have to be Inspired. Signature has the 17 degree headstock and the choice wood. But Lennon didn't sign his own guitar, did he? If there's one thing I can't stand, it's signed replicas. I've never understood why anyone want's a fake signature, or fake aging for that matter. Even the signature is a replica! And if I have to spend half again as much? I think I'll put that extra cash towards the Texan or the Gibson. I may never find a good 60's burst with an archback, but maybe a decent Japanese Elitist.

But Epiphone did think of the people who don't want their Texan to look like a J-160e or any acoustic with a pickup, that's why they chose the Nanoflex system.... It's almost invisible and it's not like those other systems where you have a piece of plastic on the side of the guitar with EQ and stuff (which to me is ALWAYS a huge turn-off with acoustic guitars)...

There's 3 good reasons why one MUST buy this: 1. Price, 2. Looks, 3. Price

Tried one of these out today at Sam Ash on 48th Street. Have to say I was pretty impressed - very nice value for the money.

FYI - Neck is quite a bit chunkier than the recent US & Japan Texans

Congrats Jon!

[biggrin]

Thank you EpiSheriMan!

Yes, the neck is indeed a bit chunkier, but I like that, I can't wait to change the strings to lighter/sparklier ones!
