Buying a Casino : internet sellers

I'm looking at getting a Casino and can see a shop on UK ebay called musicgear4you2009 at http://myworld.ebay.co.uk/musicgear4you2009/ with good prices, only £359... compared to a typical price elsewhere of £450

Has anyone dealt with this shop and can you confirm that the products are genuine?

My reason for checking is that the detail in their feedback comments suggest that they have sold several Epiphone Black Beauty Les Paul's for about £200 and this is far far far below the normal price available anywhere else. I think the prices are so low because they offer a "Best Offer" option and must have accepted several very low offers.

Has anyone got experience with these guys?

I'm pretty sure these guys ship direct from China, hence a 12-day wait for your instrument and that they are not an authorised Gibson/Epi supplier but Gibson USA would be able to confirm this for you.

From memory the website used to have a lot of grammatical and spelling errors, with typical Far Eastern diction. However, they've tidied things up and worked very hard to convince you they sell genuine Epis, which of course they may well do, despite not being authorised to do so.

One question you may want to ask yourself is why does a London-based company use American spellings e.g. 'color'.

My advice would be to check prices on DV247.com and Thomman.de.

DV247 will 'price match' Thomann (who tend to be the most competitive) if you'd prefer it not to come from Germany.

thanks guys, I have asked them the obvious question to see what they say.

The Thomann price is actually pretty good.. mind you, looking on their website, i see that the have nice looking rivieras on sale ... very nice looking.

the price match sounds like a good idea. Note, while looking around, i also see that GAK are quoting delivery in March!

Both DV247 and imuso.co.uk had European price matches advertised just last week although I can't find that on their sites now. DV247 do say 'phone for price beating', however.

To the OP did you buy a guitar from them?

I was looking at buying this, what do people think?

They do seem to go out of the way to tell you about things to look for on a fake guitar, also the emails are definitely from a natural english speaker?

still not sure tho.

An update from OP (moi),

I didn't buy from the musicgear4you2009 seller but found that he had a hard time on a les paul forum (www.mylespaul.com) from one of the posters there and as a result he posted a few replies to reaffirm that his stock is genuine. I've no new reason to doubt him, but it is difficult to determine what is real and what is not real until you have the guitar in your hands (and even then, I might not spot a fake)

I did however buy a casino on ebay which I hope is genuine and check this out for a deal... Over the past weeks I had found myself increasingly searching ebay for Epiphone Casinos and Fender Strats, hoping to find either as a bargain. On 23rd December, I spotted an advert offering a Casino and a Mexican Strat (and a couple of Boss pedals). The seller was 50 miles away and was doing a pickup only option near Glasgow, so there were few other bidders. I couldn't believe it when I got them for £430... what a total Bargain. The only downside is that the seller has lost the pickguard so I need to get one.

I picked them up on Christmas Eve and found myself with the perfect Chrimbo presents for myself.

Happy Christmas to me!!
