EpiphonePlayer
Hi, I put some D'Addario EXL light gauges on my new Ibanez AEL20Ea acoustic. They sound great, I just wanted to know your opinion on acoustic strings? [biggrin]
JohnMcClane5000
I bought some D'Addario Phosphor Bronze ones and they're superb! But I've heard people saying Elixir ones were the best, but they're rather expensive...

I love the way they feel and sound, I put them on my cheap Lyon and on the Martin HD-28. Sheila
cunningham26
I like the elixers as well, but yea they're a bit expensive. I have martin acoustic sp strings on my hummingbird and really love them. i've changed them once in almost three years, and they're really helped the top open up some and create some depth
EpiphonePlayer
I've heard Exilers are good but the guy at my local guitar store told me that the have a waxy substance that can get on your guitar
Hungrycat
Who makes those "zebra" strings? Alternate windings of phosphor bronze and standard nickel-steel. Those seemed interesting to me.
Guest
Down to personal taste and experiences, not sure about best. I have Martin Acoustic SP 80/20 bronze Custom light .011 - .052 on my Levin Acoustic. My daughter bought me a nice strap for Christmas, and in the package was a set of Ernie Ball Earthwood Light .011 - .052 will give them a whirl when the time comes. The Martins are a bit pricey, but they were recommended seeing the link between Levin and Martin.
TheLastCrowOnTheWire
i use D'Addario custom lights on all my acoustics, they give a twang/jangle but still have a great warm bass

Used to use GHS "White Bronze" on the latter, but these sound so much better--less clangy. Even tried other gauges of D'A's, but always come back to the lights

Sharwood73
Elixers are hard to beat- I haven't used anything else since I tried them. They sound great on my masterbilt and even make my AJ 100 sound ok.
deflepfan
Who makes those "zebra" strings? Alternate windings of phosphor bronze and standard nickel-steel. Those seemed interesting to me. These are the only ones I've seen at my local store. Don't know if others make them or not. Sheila
