dougg330
Hey, all - I have a Riv with mini humbuckers that I looooooove. But GAS has struck and I'm seriously looking at a new Riviera P-93 with 3 P-90's. I love P-90's, but I seem to remember that the mini-humbuckers are fairly close to them sonically. So my question is, will the P93 sound different enough from my current Riv to make a difference? Anyone out there have experience with both? Any and all opinions are welcome. Thanks- Dougg330
charlie brown
I have both the Riviera (w/minis) and a P-93LE. They're quite different, IMHO. More midrange "quack" and growl, with the P-90's, and with 3 of them, you get a wide variety of tones, some even approaching "Gretsch" like, in nature. So...I don't think you'd be overlapping, tone wise, by getting the P-93, at all. But...the best thing to do, IF you can, is to test them, side by side. I'd love to see a bigger picture of it....
dougg330
Is there some kind of curse attached to the Riviera P-93? Every time I decide to buy one, some kind of financial tsunami hits me. I intend to take CB's advice and find a way to buy the P93 and still keep my mini-hb Riv,,, just as soon as I get past this latest crisis and come up with some $. Boy, do I know THAT feeling and/or circumstance. I've been trying to get my last "Bucket List" guitars, for years. Unfortunately, they're both Gibson's (ES-345, and VOS SG (Les Paul) with Maestro), and cost a small fortune! So....who knows?! But, be patient, "The worm will turn," and you'll get your P-93LE... Hang in there! CB
