jbear
Looking for a guitar that can cover the Rosewinkel/Metheny gamut clean sound with the neck pup as well as the Robben ford tone overdriving the bridge pup. I am looking at a Sheraton II and I'm seeing some variation. I am curious as to which (if any) are considered more desirable. -I see some with "E" on the truss rod covers and some with "Gibson" -I see some blondes with twin stripes running the length of the back of the neck and some without On a separate note...are the pickups in the Sheraton II's different from the Dots and Dot Special (the one with a flame top and block inlays)? The Dots I've heard seem "thinner" than the Sheratons. Would you say that's accurate or am I hearing the variation of players and amps? Thanks so much for any input offered. New To Strats
IT'S THE SAME PHUCKING ADVICE THAT'S BEEN GIVE A HUNDRED PHUCKING TIMES BEFORE, ********. IF YOU'D JUST DO A PHUCKING SEARCH YOU'D FIND IT. BUT NOOOOOOO! IF YOU'RE SO PHUCKING LAZY, WHY BOTHER EVEN PLAYING THE GODDAM GUITAR???!!! I like the older ones made by Samick (86-95 approx)' date=' way better necks IMO. Those necks have a really nice profile, thinner than the newer ones. Those are the necks with the twin stripes, they're actually made from 5 pieces of wood for better strength and stability. You can also see the stripes on the sunburst models: [img']http://home.earthlink.net/~jkmcleer/Guitars/epi%20sheraton%20back%20neck.jpg[/img] The older ones usually say Gibson on the truss rod cover, and have different pickups than the newer ones. Older ones are a little hotter, newer ones more vintage sounding.

cunningham26
I"m with jerry, I like the thicker neck from the 5 piece, but I'd say the current sheri II's neck is about as thin as the dots. Maybe a bit more heft, but nothing noticeable. Also I think most people will say that the browner tobacco burst simply looks much better than the current output from unsung in a pretty bad sunburst. I actually did a side by side at GC on Friday with a sheri II, a dot, dot deluxe, and casino. there's a marked difference between the sheri and dot. beyond the electronics, the quality of the construction was just much better, and I could tell from playing that the sheri was made with better quality woods, which is something I don't normally pick up on. It could have been because every fretboard I played that day was dry and screaming for some lemon oil, but where the fingerboard on the sheri was smooth, the dot was really grainy and the whole thing just felt flimsy. this dude's video pretty much sold me on a sheri as my next buy :
Bender 4 Life
Jerry sort of understated the "vintage sound" of the newer Korean models.........I have a fairly late model Korean Sherri that literally SINGS when plugged into a good tube amp. I'm not all that "hepped up" on what most consider "hot" alnicos.........many are just noise transfer systems that don't have a lot of character, but the p'ups in my Sherri are just perfect for sweet clean, and/or, slightly gritty tones. Guest
I waited a few months for the right one to come along at the right price and then it just popped up on the Swedish e-bay blocket a couple of weeks ago. Looks beautiful, feels beautiful, plays beautiful. have booked a time for a new bone nut and pro set up in Stockholm. The one I wanted and found 1989 Samick, 5 piece neck model like Jerrymac describes....It is such a beautiful guitar the Sheraton. A useful tool I found about on this forum to help me find exactly what I was after.... http://www.guitardaterproject.org/epiphone.aspx Just ask the seller to give you the serial, really helped me set the scene on what to expect when going to view the guitar. Then when I found a good prospect I asked advice on the forum. http://forums.epiphone.com/default.aspx?g=posts&t=12691 Then when I went and tried it out fell in love, still smitten....:-) and that striped 5 piece neck Jerry spoke of
jbear
I really appreciate the input folks. I use to have an MIJ blonde that I sold (or traded...can't recall) several years ago when I was collecting guitars. I sold a lot of instruments when I went into photography and just kept one favorite Strat. I'm actually playing a lot more than I was then, so...time for a semi.
