PUPS switch & Volume setting

Thanks in advance for the help and sorry for the ignorance. I have a new Epi Casino and was wondering about the pickup setting switch and the relationship to the vol. controls. Is it normal if the switch control in in the "blend or both" position to need both volume controls turned on for it to play thru the amp? To clarify, if one or the other volume control is set to zero on my Casino, then no sound passes thru to the amp even with the other volume control turned to max. None of my other guitars work other than in the center both position allowing you to set volumes anywhere that you want.

Also, I guess I was expecting this to really sound a lot better than it does to me. The neck is straight, but this thing really requires the strings to be way too high for my tastes or it frets out and really sounds out of tune.Maybe I'm too used to my fine American Strat. OOOppsy, I said may have said a bad word here. [biggrin]

Thanks again for the help.

With the switch in the middle position, either volume control controls the overall volume. So, if you turn one right down, there will be no sound at all. This is normal, and how most, if not all Les Pauls, SGs, etc are wired these days. When you flip the switch to select a pickup individually, that's when the appropriate volume control, bridge or neck, comes into play. This can be altered, but it's not easy to do anything onvolving wiring on a hollow bodied guitar, as I'm sure you know. It's commonly known as '50s wiring, when you can control each pickup individually with the switch in the middle position.

Also, it sounds to me like there could be a high fret somewhere, either not seated probably, or not crowned enough, causing it to 'fret out' (I'm assuming you're referring to the note not ringing correctly when fretted). I'm sure one of our local tech folk will be along shortly to perhaps give you a better diagnosis.

Thanks for the help with the pickup deal. So you can make the back pickup louder than the front as long as you have the front turned on past 0 then I'm understanding ( or visa versa )

I'll maybe take it back to the store as just got it Saturday and maybe they can fix or get me another one.

Thanks again!!!
