Go to True Value Hardware and buy a little rubber grommet for 15 cents. Then you can do the Lennon thing' date=' screw the grommet into the hole. I usually buy a black screw the same size as the one that came with the guitar, but that's a matter of personal taste.

also whats the john lennon thing?

and ive been reading up on the rubber grommets and people are reporting they leave a halo effect and discolour around that area, also are they easy to remove?

John Lennon was this guy who played in some band 50 years ago. He took the pickguard off his guitar, but put the screw and grommet back in the hole so he wouldn't lose them just in case he wanted to put the pickguard back on some day:

Now most archtops have a grommet under the pickguard to raise them up, Pauls don't need them because the pickguard sits close to the body. So in order to cover up the hole, just go to your local hardware store and buy your own grommet.

Will it discolor, who knows & who cares??? You're not going to see it, and someday if you take it off and put the pickguard back on, the pickguard will cover it. Hell, by the time the grommet discolors anything, your guitar will have scratches, dings, chips (if it doesn't you're not playing it right), the finish will have faded a bit, and you'll be on some forum saying that you should have that Epiphone Gold Top 20 years ago. Now you just got a brand new guitar, stop obsessing about the serial number, the factory, the finish, rubber grommets and play the freakin' thing. Stop worrying and enjoy it!!!
