SAGS!!

Recommended Posts

Okay,

First up, the Secret Guitar Acquisition Syndrome happened! I got what I was looking for at a good price. Its a 1990 Samick built Sheraton (according to the sticker on the back! lols) anyway shes been used, not abused just used there's no buckle rash, no dents or dings or chips and she's in overall good cond. However, the goldplating is a little tired and in need of rework or replacement. So my question is where do you obtain Epiphone gold covers?? The last time I tried this was for my Black Beauty and thinking that Gibson & Epiphone covers were the same I made the mistake of ordering a Gibson one only to find that the holes didn't match up ( Oh! The blaspheme, I can hear you all now for saying such a thing!!Lols) So how do I go about restoring my.... Rather Nice Prize by the way, to its former...

I have just ordered a set of hand wound humbuckers for my 89 sherry.

I am dreading the brand new gleam...... I like the character of the aged slightly tarnished look.

That is why I am on the hunt for and older frequensator as well.

I accept my two Sherry's are 21 and 23 years old.

I personally want them to keep their character

I might even attack my new pups with something to age them "a little".

You sneaky devil......enjoy your illicit Sheraton, just as the mature guitar she is....don't go dressing her up as "mutton dressed as lamb" [thumbup]

These folks give good service in the UK:

There are 2 different sizes so hopefully one will fit Epis....measure yours, I'd bet on the 50mm spacing.

I've been guilty of SGAS too...there's 1997 "F" series Korean goldtop arriving at my house any day now. I plan to deny all knowledge. Should work for a couple seconds, long enough to get "3 steps towards the door...."

I've got another line of defence, apart from stout denial, which is always worth a try.

I claim to have a "1 in, 1 out" policy; I can buy another guitar anytime, as long as I sell one. In practice, I don't sell one straightaway, because I need a few weeks to work out whether the new one is a keeper, or which one is going. If I keep buying and selling often, The Boss loses track of the Ins and Outs, and I somehow don't get around to selling so many.

Works for a bit, until I get cornered and forced to do a stocktake. If the count comes to more than 6 or 7, I'm under pressure. Last time it was 11 and a half.

You could always change the PUP's for new ones with gold cases if you like. I would recommend it. I've done this with my Sheraton and it sounds like a blanket has been taken off the guitar. The PUP's in sheratons, while to alot of peoples taste, are the weak link. They are both down as LP/DOT NECK PUP's when you take them off! Even the GFS ones are loads better in the States. I went with Kent Armstrong as I'm in the UK, GFS postage was too high. Lots of people shell our for Gibson or SD which is best but the difference is amazing from stock, plus you get your gold back.

I did the exact same thing about 6 weeks ago. I found an Epi Prophecy SG on Fleabay. It was in new condition never before removed from the box. The seller had bought the stock of a music store that went out of buisiness. It was an 08 model and listed for bids $570 w/HS case. He had the buy now option and I caught the listing within 5 minutes of posting and went for without talking to the wife. It took me until the day it was to arrive B4 I told my wife. She was not very pleased until I showed her what used and new model prices were and it helped ease the situaton. Subsequently I was told to stay off Ebay and not to puchase anything over $50 without discussing it with her. LOL

Has anyone found it easier to "sneak" an amp into the house? I think that has to be next, and I'm rather counting on the erroneous perception that an amp must be cheaper than a guitar.......

Also wondered if anyone ever tried the Stew-Mac Golden Age humbuckers for replacements (nice shiny gold covers) for $50 a pop.

For me its actually become easier buying new gear instead of harder.

My wife has developed an interest in old guitars and being an accountant by trade is always happy if i can pick up a "bargain" and possibly re-sell it later.

Last week she called out "this guys playing a vintage guitar" while watching TV, it was some old 60's footage of a band who's guitarist was playing a nice Rickenbacker 360 V64, "why don't you buy one of those, it's beautiful!?" she inquired!

Maybe for her next birthday.

I have had to sneak in my Epi JL acoustic/electric, Casino VS, black Fender MIM Strat, Tech 21 amp, Epi Valve Jr., and Fender Champ 600. Yeah I know, I need help. But so do you my friends! LOL! My name is Robert and I'm an addict.

My only out is that after graduation I will be working my a$$ off to pay the bills so she can take it easy for a while. She's earned it thats for sure!

Yeah me too

Have had to hide them in cases' date=' dissassemble parts all over, and adhere to a 1 in, 1 out policy.

Was even threatened with a contract needing a blood signiture. [biggrin

She scooped me pretty good with the sorento, and served me a lesson based on my own tactics. Of course she browbeat the oldest son into compliance.

But I really like the amp idea. I have this VOX 30 that doesn't work too well. Hmmmmm, hide the new one, inside the casing........

ohhhhh, never mind:^o

Yup, it takes finesse to get that next guitar without a scowl from the boss. Sometimes I buy myself a Christmas present, or hint around at birthday time. Of course, if you do that, you need to make sure that she gets something nice, too. A pair of diamond earrings always helps dull the senses enough to get that new axe (grin).

And then there's work bonuses that sometimes (used to) come in a separate check. Those are good for GASsy times.
