Your opinions/experiences with the Epi Les Paul Standard Plus

Okay ... to begin with, I don't own one! My two Epiphone LP's are the Ultra and the Prophecy GX ... obviously different than the Standard in several ways.

 

I have been attracted to the Standard Plus Top in trans blue ever since I first saw one. As you guys will know, not all of these guitars look exactly the same. I've seen them run from so dark they are almost purple to so light they are almost lavender in the center. Well ... we have one at the store that is as close to perfect as I think I will ever find. With my discount, I can pick these things up for a bit over $200 off the regular price ... money that would be spent changing every bit of cream and amber colored plastic on it to chrome ... ala the beauty that Twang posted a few weeks ago. It played and sounded just fine with no aparent issues.

 

Do I need it ... NO! Am I GASSING for it ... BIG TIME! So I turn to you guys to either talk me out of it or close the deal depending on your experiences with this guitar. Thanks in advance!

I dont have a standard plus, I love my standard, after a decent set up I had an issue with the g string hanging up in the nut still do, depending on the weather.

 

One other thing the nut on the input jack wouldn't stay tight. another 1/8" of thread would cure that or they stay away from the tapered end, anyway I just took off the washer and snugged it up no prob. Bob

If you've found one that is as near as can be to perfect, then I urge you to get it. That's exactly how I feel about mine. It's absolutely perfect. Really the only things I can fault with it are the fact that I didn'r buy it new myself and it shows tiny bits of evidence of being preloved, which nobody but me will ever really notice, and the inlays. They're just not nice and pearly and multifaceted like most, and really do look like the plastic faux pearl that they are. The ones on my Casino and SG do at least look like proper mother of pearl. But, again, this is clutching at straws, and if I wasn't the pedantic person I am anyway, I would not even notice.

 

Mine does of course have Seymour Duncan pickups, which I love. They sound fantastic. But even the rest of it, which is all stock, is excellent. The finish is superb. It doesn't run into the binding anywhere. The grain on the back is interesting and not stripey like some. The flame on the top is evident, but not extreme, just the way I like it. The piece of rosewood they used on the neck is a gift from the guitar gods. The grain is just so tight and smooth. Neck profile is perfect. Frets are perfect. Neck is perfect, with the right amount of relief. Action is low. The sustain is astonishing. I cannot fault any of it. If the one you've found is at all like that, get it.

 

Really makes you wonder just how on earth Gibson can charge so much for their guitars when Epiphone is capable of building something like this, which embodies all that Gibson persona and goodness, so affordably. Especially these days when Gibson seem to charge stupid prices 'because they're Gibson', and for no real discernable reason.

Get it!!! .... you only live once....or so they say:-k I have an '07 honeyburst plustop, and it's a beaut - plays great, fit and finish are very good.... not generally a fan of the transblue tops but I have seen a few that I really liked...and the chrome trim parts would be sharp. Go on, buy it !!! You KNOW you WANT to !!!

Mine was excellent. I did change the PUs to Seymour Duncan Alnico2 Pros tho.

I love my Standard Plus. It's completely stock and I don't plan on changing a thing. It sounds great through my JCM 800! Just look how happy I am!!

The only thing that I personally don't like about the Trans Blue LP Plus is that the back of it is also blue. It just looks weird to me. If it was a nice dark brown finish, then I'd probably want one myself.

Mine has a low action and a near straight neck. Now I've raised the stop bar tailpiece and installed Seymour Duncans I cannot fault it for feel as well as tone. It sings like a bird unplugged too - thick, fat, creamy resonance.

 

I own a USA production Charvel and a Gibson SG faded which are wonderful guitars but the Epi LP is still my 'go to' guitar. Hard not to pick up for its looks and then difficult to put down for its sound and feel. For me, there's just something about the feel of a Les Paul in your hands.

 

I keep thinking that I want another one!

 

Either a vintage sunburst plain top or, better still, a Tribute with the '57 classics and combination C/D shaped neck. The only rate limiting step is the ongoing attachment of my testicles.

 

For me, I like the classic colours rather than blue but that's a personal thing isn't it.

 

 

So go on, get one - $200 is ridiculous!

Hey Midi, what's up I think it looks like a good buy esp./w your discount. I also think the wine red ones are sharp but you already have that red Prophecy. Relieve your gas and go for it before someone else does. With your discount you could easily get your money back if it some how let you down IMO. I just recently had 2 gas attacks in the last 3 months and wound up getting a Gibson Limited edition flying V which I have urned for all my life and I bought another Prophecy SG but the EX this time LOL. Go for what you know and spank the bejesus out of it. Rewd!
