FlyboyAgain
Hello. I'm new to the forum and have just taken possession of a '95 Sheraton, bought off a colleague for a bargain price. Restrung it yesterday and plugged her in. I must admit I'm not daft over the pick-ups - they seems a bit edgy - but I was really alarmed at the volume drop when turning down the rear pup. This is also more noticeable on a 'drive' setting on the amp. I also have a Gibby 335 and that guitar does not exhibit the same trait. It seems that the cap must be bleeding off volume as well. Any ideas? I was also thinking about putting in a couple of SD Classic '59s but would welcome any further comments and recommendations regarding both the points raised here. Strumbone
Welcome to the forum Laddie...I think I heard that term in Edinborough Scotland. Fellow forum member Twang builds assemblies (pots, caps, jack, and switch) for our Sherri's, but if you're good with a soldering iron, no reason why you can't do your own. I too wanted the classic PAF sound, so I put S-D Antiquities in mine, along with new pots and orange drop tone caps. I recorded this instrumental of an old 60's song, with the lead and rhythm parts done on my '98 MIK Sherri with new pups and pots. This was tracked with direct input to a Zoom MRS-8 recorder, and not through my home made tube amp, and yes there's some clipping involved, and I admit to NOT really having a clue how to do this, but at least you can get an idea of how the Sherri sounds: Hot Cha MP3
jammybstard
Sounds like a wiring fault, I had a similar problem, i think it was caused by the floating leg of the tone pot shorting to ground or similar, Could perhaps just require your wiring tidying up. Or, you might need to replace the tone cap, If it's gone a bit short circuit, that would certainly cause this effect. Welcome to the forum Laddie... Don't try that one if your actually in Scotland! FlyboyAgain
I think Strumbone means well - I am an Edinburgh guy and my old boy used to call me 'Laddie' when he was hacked off with me. Well, I think I'll pull the whole harness when I get round to changing the pups. SD Antiqs, eh? Must admit I was a bit shocked at the price of just ONE Classic '59 !! Guest
Aren't young men "laddies" (plural of lad)' date=' and young ladies "lassies"? [/quote'] I think a cultural comparison would be the use of "boy" to black men in the States, Laddie could be taken as condescending and derogatory in a certain context.......... but I am sure all our Scottish forum members will understand Strum only said it in a positive way.......blame Hollywood, Lassie, Shortbread tins and all other Scottish stereotypes. Maybe we should send Strum that Billy Connolly sketch when he compares his reality being brought up in Glasgow with the images of Scotland he grew up in the media. I love that sketch...."Crawford" and "Roamin in the Gloamin"......... Cultural differences......we have to give each other a bit of slack on these things........ Being from Liverpool, I remember the US Beatles cartoons, were George had a "Brummie" accent....... RE: Pickup choice for a Sheraton......I was torn between Lollar Low Wind Imperials and Burstbucker 1's so I contacted a guy who winds pickups with a growing reputation and gave him a spec for my pickups of 7.0k neck 7.9k neck, alnico II unpolished magnets, gaussed to PAF spec, unmatched bobbins, unpotted, so a hybrid of the Lollar Low Wind Imperials and Burstbucker 1's and they are cheaper to get hand made than the Lollar or the Gibsons... That was my choice, the guy is also making me a first class harness, Gibby wire, CTS pots, Switchcraft jack and switch, paper and oil caps.....Should arrive in about two weeks... Then I will have a beautiful 1989 Samick Sheraton with bespoke pickups and wiring hand made by a craftsperson...... That is the way I chose to do it......with one of my Sheratons
FlyboyAgain
Dear God, I don't think 'Laddie' is anywhere near as bad as using 'Boy' to a bloke in the South. My old man - yet again - called me 'Boy' as well, when annoyed with me. Hhmmm... beginning to see a pattern emerging here! Joe: that's from 'An audience with Billy Connolly' from the late '80s; one of the funniest things I've seen. Crawford and Tarquin - the surname clan have taken over!! Anyway, back to Sheratons: what's the diff bewteen a Mk1 and a Mk2??

Guest
Thanks for that. Remember seeing something about P94s' date=' as well...........decisions........[/quote'] Before splashing the cash on P94's you may want to consider other comparable options. I have mentioned above about my 89 Sherri will have PAF clones I have two other Epiphones I am going for Lollar Firebirds in my 87 Sherri which will also be split so I have a very different voicing in that guitar to my other Sherri. Also I am waiting for GFS black Mean 90's for my (full hollow) Joe Pass..... http://store.guitarfetish.com/me90gocaalp9.html The aim three very different Epi's for blues.... FlyboyAgain
Yeh, I should forget the P94s. Must go jump onto evilbay and have a gander........... The thing is, I'm really a bassist who has a few guitars and I'm not too clued up on what's out there, 'bucker-wise. You got any experience of GFS kit?
