Okay Im 13, I have a '78 Gibson Les Paul Deluxe, and crappy kustom amp (i just ordered a vox VT30) and a few pedals. Bender 4 Life Posted March 8, 2010 Share Posted March 8, 2010 Welcome to the forum......belated. I'm 46, and play mostly Blues, and Country, with some Classic Rock and Metal tossed in for fun........ I play a fair amount of Acoustic music, but mostly electric. My tone of course depends on what i'm playing, I use several Les Pauls (Epis, an Agile & a Gibson) a G400, a Flying-V, a Telecaster, a Sheraton II, and an odd little SX SJM '57 (Jaguar'ish guitar w P-90 p'ups). My Acoustics at present are a Washburn D-10SB Dreadnaught size.(voted best entry level acoustic under $500 several years ) and a Fender Malibu single cutaway acou/elec concert/auditorium size. (most likely voted best firewood, as it's a really crappy guitar). My lovely wife has me a"gently used, but old" Epi. EJ-200 Super Jumbo size acoustic on layaway. I use a Blackstar 5w all tube mini-half stack, because it's incredibly versatile for different tones from a single amp. I don't use pedals, or effects, only the gain circuit built into my amp. For psychobilly i use a Gretch-ified Epiphone Dot Studio with TV Jones classic filtertron humbuckers, sometimes I play my Gretsch G5125 live but we played a lot of unsavory gigs so i didnt wanna ruin my Gretsch during crowd control, so in comes the Epiphone "GrenTch." I use a Peavey Classic 50w 4/10 combo with a "Nocturne" pre*amp pedal and a EHX #1 echo that im hoping to replace with an analog delay shortly. twodice Posted March 8, 2010 Share Posted March 8, 2010 Hey, my "No.1" guitar is my Elitist Valensi Riviera P-94, it's perfect in everyway for me. I have always loved the Fender single coil pickup sound but wanted something abit more meaty, and Humbuckers are just abit too meaty for the sound i want, but the P-94s are pefectly in the middle. I have always loved the look and feel of the semi-hollow 335 style guitar (hence why my first guitar was my cherry Dot!) my "No.2" guitar is my Fender Mustang. Reason being, i just love Fender guitars. It doesnt even sound that good, but that's what i like about it. As for my sound, as i mentioned above, i like the treble-y, jangly yet precise attack of the P-94s. I only use one effects pedal, my Ibanez TS9 tube screamer and thats just left on all the time. My favourite amp is my Fender Super Champ XD, just channel 1, with a little bit of reverb. I like to keep my set up really basic to keep the raw sounds of the guitars and amps. My "all in one sound" comes from my favorute bands and guitarists: Carl Barat (the libertines), Ryan Jarman (the cribs), Nick Valensi (the strokes), Caleb Followill (kings of leon), Daniel Kessler (interpol), Jack White (white stripes), Peter Hayes (black rebel motorcycle club) and Josh Homme (queens of the stone age). . I have a couple electric guitars including my Casino and a Schecter C1+ but I mostly get into fingerstyle acoustic music. When I grab my Casino or Schecter, it's all blues and classic rock for me. I plug into a Fender Blues Jr and play through a few select pedals including a Fulltone FB3, a Boss Blues Driver and a Vox wah. RSDx Posted March 8, 2010 Share Posted March 8, 2010 Old geezer, here - 52 ... play electrics (one LP-two humbuckers, one BMG signature-3 Tri-Sonic single coils through an old VJ combo, a fairly new VJ head'n'cab, and crappy not-worth-mentioning little disposable SS 15w amp), and acoustic (Epi AJ18), I play rock, hard rock, rock'n'roll, rockabilly, blues, rhythm'n'blues, funk, punk, ska, reggae, bluegrass, folk, jazz, etc...etc.... incredibledisc Posted March 8, 2010 Share Posted March 8, 2010 My last band were described as playing "grungey-Pixies-or-Sugar like rock with nods to QOTSA, Nivana, The Melvins and Sonic Youth" I play A Rickenbacker 360/12, Epiphone Les Paul and Epiphone Sheraton II for the plugged in stuff through a variety of effects run through a Vox AC-30 CCH with 2x12" cab. I use a Tanglewood TW15 12-string electro-acoustic for the quiet stuff. I'm a lefty and getting good quality axes to accomodate my "disability" has always been a problem. I play mostly covers of music from the 60's, 70's & 80's. The genres of music have sort of changed over the years so I would say I play rock, hard rock & metal. I too am starting to get more into blues & blues rock. I have the privalege to play with several different musicians I know around my part of town. I'll throw in a dash of metal just for fun, but it is not my goal. I mainly use guitar as a tool to improve my bass playing, that is, after spending 15 years being a root note player. My guitar setup is pretty simple. I mostly use my G-310 (Dimarzio Super-2 & X2N) and my Epiphone S-500 (customized with a single GFS EVH clone) through a Fender Princeton Chorus amplifier. But like I said, my focus is not really on guitar, but to learn theory, scales, runs, licks, etc. to apply to bass. So far its working out quite well. I play in a blues/rock/pop band. tartanbeastie Posted March 10, 2010 Share Posted March 10, 2010 i play all sorts, country, blues, rock but mostly original material than covers. i have two electrics.. 2009 gibson sg faded special and a fender telecaster thats about 13 years old. both of them played through a fender blues junior amp and occasionally run through a beringer chorus orchestra pedal. i have 2 electro acoustics and my fiance has 2 and an acoustic bass. regading pickups etc, i'm of the belief that you buy what you want because you like it not because you need to modify it, if you want better or different then by the model off the peg or custom shop. yes people enjoy doing there tweeks and changes and fair play to them for doing it but i would only buy guitars because i love the way they sound right from the word go. I'm 15, and have a Epiphone Les Paul standard that I'm thinking of modding it. I've played for almost a year now. My amp is the Roland 15x Cube, and I do have a DS-2 Boss distortion pedal but rarely use it. I should. I also have a Cort electric in Japan that I use when I go back there during the holidays. Also, I have 2 functional acoustics, a cheap $100 back in Japan and a cutaway Morris at home in America. matiac Posted March 14, 2010 Share Posted March 14, 2010 I use the heavily modified Epiphone pictured below for everything, the pickups are old Gibson "T-top" pickups ca. 1970's, and other goodies in/on the guitar. When recording I don't use an amp, I plug my Zoom 505II directly to my laptops soundcard, and mix it all up with the freeware "Audacity". When I do use an amp, it's an old Crate B20 bass combo, which lends a really fat tone to the mostly "classic" style rock I like to do, that, and funk driven guitar stuff. A guy over at the Gibson forums uploaded "Rocky Mountain Way" for everyone to throw their own stuff to, I think I'll toy with that for a little while. Recordings are all done through the computer with amps simulated by Guitar Rig 3. Performances are with my Valve Junior, but I'm looking to add a Fender Blues Deluxe. It's not really a high-priority purchase, since most of my guitar playing live is acoustic. The J-45 is my primary acoustic guitar, with the Martin doing some of the different sounds. Electric guitars are the Casino and Spirit for the bluesier tones, the Melody Maker playing harsher stuff. The Strat doesn't do much. Bass is a borrowed Fender Deluxe Jazz Bass, which is nice, but I'm looking to buy my own, as well as an upright bass. Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

Ask anyone :- My favorite guitar is my Tele and I try to play classic rock and blues, mostly I make noise that my wife and 2 dogs don't like......... I played guitar in elementary school, then took some lessons in my thirties for a couple of years but got no where, so gave it up. Took another gander at it last summer to help deal with some physical pain and now I am hooked! Play mostly classic rock, and use the gear in my sig. Gibson pups in the LPC, Gibson bridge pup in the Explorer. The Carvins are super versitile, so they do anything, but I don't usually play'em live. And when I wanna sing the blues I head down the the crossroads with the Elitist 335 Dot. (Not really. That guitar don't leave the house.) I'm not playing out on bass right now. I'm guessing your modded squire strat? no im using the sg with dimarzio's. i put an evolution in the bridge and humbucker from hell in the neck' date=' and i can get some good cleans from the neck. im pretty sure the HB from hell was made to sound like a single coil without the hum (but it definately has a lot more bite to it). its no jazz box but roll off the volume and it sounds pretty dern good. and i just realized i put that im 14. forgot i had a birthday last year...
