There was a cherry red les paul special for sale used around here ~$350 canadian. I was in Victoria, B.C. last week and played a brand new special, cherry red, p90s, set neck etc. Nice guitar, price new was $375 CAN. I can't find any info on the specs for these. I told the guy at the store I was looking more for a standard les paul with p90s (e.g. a goldtop) and they had listed on their epiphone inventory a honeyburst lespaul standard with p90s they could order in, same price as a regular les paul standard. Intrigued by both.

The Gibson ones were around £695 - £725 new price with gigbag, but were discontinued. I've seen white, faded cherry/brown and worn yellow, (which is a darker colour than TV yellow). It's a satin finish rather than gloss, with the open grain showing. I got a yellow one on e-bay for £450 a couple of years ago. It's my most-used guitar for gigging. I refinished it in a shade nearer TV.

There's also a Gibson single cutaway humbucker version which I've only seen in cherry/brown, I've been trying to sell mine on e-bay recently but there's been little interest. I think I paid about £500 for it, it's a great guitar but I think I have too many 2 humbucker guitars now....

Here's my single cut Gibson :

These Specials are completely different guitars to "usual" LPs. Thinner body, slim 60s neck, flat top. Makes them slimmer, lighter, easy access to upper frets. More like an SG feel, but I actually prefer these to SGs. They are perfectly balanced. The neck heel is less obtrusive than conventional LPs.

There's nothing under the pickguard except the plain surface, but on the DC you'd have a lot of obvious screw holes to deal with if you left it off. On my single cut I actually added the pickguard because they need one. The satin finish marks easily and after 2 gigs I had 3 very visible pick marks from powerchording....the visible "screws" are dummy screw heads and it's attached via the pup surround screws like those screwless LP pickguards you can buy, so someone could remove it if they prefer it without.

i must be odd, i am so liking the specials, more than all the other lp's!

@stevekapono that epi dc is nice but it's in the us... i'm sure it'll be snapped up though!

@antwhi2001 how thick is the body on the special? you know i am looking for a replacement to an sg. i want something gentler looking but with upper fret access. the sg has that. anyone have a pic of the back of the neck? i do want a 60'sneck...

I got a special a few weeks ago and I love it. It plays great and sounds better. I like the fact that it is kinda like a junior, but has a wider tonal pallet, with a neck pick up and all. I have been looking for information on it and can't really find anything. Gibson is selling a version and there website gives a general history of the model, but that is about it.

I've actually been looking for a hard case for it. Since it is a flat top would it fit well into an Epiphone case? Or should I look for something else?
