Epi Casino vs Epi Sheraton?

Heres something I've been pondering for a quick second. These guitars seem pretty similar "335 shaped" a lot of the same hardware and both are "high end" Epiphones. I'm wondering sonically what the difference is between the Casino and the Sheraton are. I know that the Casino is full hollow while the Sheraton is semi-hollow (plank running down the middle), and the casino has p90s while the sheraton has hummies.

I wonder how much a difference the resonance of the fully hollow makes as opposed to the semi-hollow when amplified...

If only Epi made another fully hollow 335 body guitar besides the casino that had hum then it would be easy to asses since the pups really kinda colour things.

There is a HUGE difference. The 335 style semi hollows have loads of sustain and can even venture into hi gain type situations. The full hollow guitars are slightly more muted, (though louder acoustically) and feedback quite easily, limiting there usefulness beyond more than a little crunch.

sweet,

I was wondering because both are pretty thin in comparison to full jazz hollows. I have a G5125 and it can howl uncontrollably if you let it, and the epi does a lil depending on how much level is coming through the monitors. I always attributed this to

1) the Gretsch being fully hollow

2) being think at almost 3" thick

but a Casino would resemble the acoustic attributes of lets say a 6120?

The Casinos do howl, but it's much more controllable than a jazz box. My Epi Emperor and Guild A500 (floating PUP) really can't play "loud" music at all, but the Casino can get right up there, and the feedback can be controlled by turning away from the amp, (or toward it). I don't think I'd want to play hard rock or metal with it, but it's nowhere near as bad as the big boxes.

Just my $.02

IMHO, if your Casino is feeding back, you better be wearing ear plugs because the volume required to make the Casino feedback is permanently damaging to your inner ear.

Other than that, it's apples to oranges.

Personally, I prefer the full hollow and the P90s.

IMHO the P90 is the best sounding pickup, and the vibrating top of the hollow guitar adds some complexity to the sound that actually improves the tone to my ears.

But if I was in a Heavy Metal band, I'd probably go for an ESP.

I would say no...

Depending on the setup.

6120s have a Bigsby, more hardware riding on the soundboard than a Casino with its trapazoid tailpiece.

thw csino is a almost broken mustang you have to learn when to pull harder on the reins. But when you master it the is no other guitar that can do what a casino can do in a rock stiuation. It is an aquired taste but quite addicting, after aquireing a vintage casino, i had trouble finding any room on the second half of an album i am recording for my strat and l.p. exept as second track beef ups. it will make you fall in love.

Cheers
