If so, then you shouldn't be hitting the G string at all (or you should be keeping it dampened with your finger). You play those two chords on the E and A string only, or on the A and D (or several other variations) but not on the G. BTW, where is this rattle coming from? Therefore his pinky, or 4th finger, would be playing the octave C or D on the G or 3rd string. Is you problem really a rattle or are you getting fret buzz?
