Hungrycat
Wilkinson doesn't make anything that's bad.
SamBooka
I have wondered too. I see their pickups at stewmac and the price is very low so I worry about the quality.
alanssaab
thanks for the reply hungrycat , so would a set of thier pups be better than the standard epi pups ? thanks Alan ps i'm on a budget or it would be sd's
Hungrycat
I really don't know. If I had to guess, I'd say they were on par with GFS pickups, but I've never had my hands on them. Wilkinson hardware is top-notch, so I assume the pickups are AT LEAST decent.
vomer
"A true classic pickup, wound to the same specification as given to Trevor Wilkinson by the creator of the humbucking pickup design, Seth Lover himself. This is an accurate a PAF-style pickup as is available today." Says www.jhs.co.uk/wilkinson.html. They're not exactly cheap, at 55 quid each for nickel covered humbuckers. But if the quote above ain't BS then they could be a good deal compared with the 'names'. Most of his other pups are a lot cheaper.
AlanH
thanks for the reply hungrycat ' date=' so would a set of thier pups be better than the standard epi pups ? thanks Alan ps i'm on a budget or it would be sd's I too thought about Wilkinson pups for my Epi LP but never found any youtube vids or reviews on them. My guess is that they are fairly comparable to Epi pups, being at the same end of the budget spectrum. As well as GFS somebody on here also suggested Irongear pups which are made in GB and these look pretty good from the clips on their website: http://www.irongear.co.uk/. However, I ended up finding the Seymour Duncan Hot Rodded Humbucker set (JB/Jazz) for £100 in a local store and just went for it. I've certainly not regretted that decision -they're great for anything from cleans, to blues, to out and out metal. They have total clarity, searing harmonics and yet are very articulate. Plus, there's no need to upgrade the rest of the electronics with these babies in, IMO.
twofeets
I have had their P90's. To be honest, they should stick with hardware.

jammybstard
Spend another 25 quid and be sure! http://www.coda-music.com/product_info.php?products_id=3639 Wilkinsons appear on guitars very similary priced to Lower Epis; I wouldn't have thought they'd be worth the effort. leicester35
I've tried Wilkinson pick-ups in a Vintage AV1. Thought they were great, to be honest.
jammybstard
No one's saying there's anything wrong with them, but if your running Epi pups already, are Wilkinson an upgrade?? I wouldn't think so and at +£50! they're not cheap.
7C
I have a set (HSS) in my Squier Strat - they actually sound quite good for the money. Worth a try. My son's 'Vintage' Junior came with a Wilkinson P90 in it - does the business. 7C

Worth a try.My son's 'Vintage' Junior came with a Wilkinson P90 in it - does the business. 7C I'm glad you mentioned an HSS set. As I mentioned in the Lounge a while back' date=' I'm planning a restoration job on my old Yamaha Pacifica (on a budget). Might be tempted by a Wilkinson WVSN for the neck and middle positions - [img']http://www.jhs.co.uk/Wilkinson/WVSN.jpg[/img] ...and a WVHZN (minus pick-up ring) for the bridge: ...after that, new 500K pots, knobs, bridge saddles, strings and hopefully she'll be good as new - (well, better actually). I'm guessing that if Wilko pick-ups fit a Squier then they'll fit a Pacifica (I think everything is Fender sized in the Pacifica), as I don't want to have to get a new pickguard made. Stevie Nazarenie
i have the av3p http://www.dolphinmusic.co.uk/product/38755-vintage-av3p-flame-cherry-red.html 3 stacked p90's. these had a ceramic/ alnico combo in each pickup. i swapped the neck and bridge for alnico 2 magnets. the mid has 2 alnico 5's. these are the same as p100's but you can roll the 2nd coil off. they are made and work well. alot of the p90's wilkinson do for "vintage" are ceramic. i also have the vintage av1. the tone is great i thnk they are alnico 2 pickups. not all of the wilkinsons have 4 wire cabling though so be careful. http://www.guitarampkeyboard.com/en/72473 also i have this one: the vp6. http://www.guitarampkeyboard.com/en/72467 it's a pacifica style guitar. the pickup's are ceramic. the neck and mid are 8k the bridgeis 14k. i think they have a good tone but have gone for 2 duncan designed sc's and a jackson j50... if you want pickups in the uk go here: http://www.axesrus.com/axehumbuckers.htm the wilkinson website prices for wilkinson are way off. ebay has wilko humbuckers that go for £10 regularly mostly 2 conductor though... you might get lucky. 4 conductor is an upgrade! it seems you get a set for £47 new. so 2 for 1... peeper
Wilkinson makes a much higher quality pup that the stockers or GFS. May not be the tone you are after, but the quality and value is there.
