Hi Guys

I need some help here...finalising some mods and what is a killer for me in my position is shipping costs, so to save on shipping costs does anyone now a store US, Europe that will stock all of the following who I can call and get the lot shipped in one parcel.....

3 packs DR Pure Blues Big-n-Heavy PHR-10/52 10 13 17 30 44 52

3 packs DR Pure Blues Medium PHR-10 10 13 17 26 36 46

4 black "witch hat" knobs with gold inlays (2 tone, 2 volume) (for USA, CTS, POTS)

1 black switch tip (for USA Switchcraft switch)

Pickguard material 3 or 5 ply Black

2 mandolin style pickguard brackets 1 gold 1 nickel

1 small chromatic guitar tuner to go in guitar case

There must be a supplier somewhere that can put all those in one box and ship them to me....

All in one place? Not that I'm aware of.

Now, if it's shipping thats killing you, I can try to help. Maybe you pick the one place to get the bulk of it there yourself, and I can quote you a piece meal shipping cost for the remainder. I can't even get the stuff from just one source myself though, well maybe, let me research....

But I'll try to help you, but I dunno if there is a place that has ALL that.

Have you checked stewmac yet?

I already forgot what you needed.[biggrin]

Long day...................

G'night all~

All but the strings can be obtained from stewmac. I'll drop you some strings in the mail if you wanna pay for them, but online is cheap. Do they not wanna ship to Sweden or something? If .thats the case I'll collect them and ship them to you thru GDD, then you have an easy source of repercussion is something is not correct and you need to exchange it. (as easy as international anything is I guess.)

I get the Stew-Mac catalog regularly and S-M doesn't appear to sell Witch hats

nor replacement switch tips for a USA Switchcraft switch. They do sell a reasonable

quality 3 way switch though but these are not advertised as switchcraft therefore

you would assume they are asian made.

The main problem as you may have discovered is

that asian 3 ways have milimeter thread pitch on the switch tip and Switchcraft have

USA thread pitch on theirs. While one can (I suppose )force things and cross thread

the plastic tip to get it on, it is better get the parts from a place that sells the

specific part.

You can get both the USA thread Gibson/switchcraft tips and witchhats from

guitarpartsresource..

http://guitarpartsresource.com/guitarknobs_witchhat.htm

As far as specific strings..those you will need to order separately. The guages

you mentioned are available from most manufacturers of electric strings..everyone

has their own preferences in strings.

Pickguard material (11inches x 19inches = 28cm x 48cm that's available from

StewMac #1037 b/w/b ($16 US)

mandolin brackets #5869 nickel (add a G for gold) is $9 to $10

pocket size chromatic tuner #4319 (Korg CA-1) is $20

They also have digital tuners for precision tuning +

setting up drop d tunings etc.... clips on the headstock #0771 $20

Thanks to you Carverman and Vomer I think I on the right road with those links.

Some of the shipping costs for some small items is absolutely scandalous I sure others off the beaten track like myself have come across this......:-({|=[biggrin][angry]

Well the other thing you can do is set up a consolidate shipment from a shipping

company like Bongo International. I had to do that on car parts that I ordered

from the US and the supplier didn't want to deal with international customs

paperwork. You can track the arriving shipments online and wait till everything

arrives to expedite your order to you..but this takes more work on your part

and for small items like on your shopping list...not sure it is worth it.

You can set up a one time acct for $5 US from a credit card. Shipping charges

are extra based on weight with a minimum weight.

In my case it wasn't cheap either,my bearing hub weighed 10lbs so that was $50 delivered to my door

+ the $20 that the supplier charged to ship it to my Bongo address in the US.

Bear in mind that no matter how you try and slice it..StewMac and Guitarpartresource

will charge their own shipping and handling which will be minimum a US destination charge.

You will have to pay international shipping on top of that even in some type of

consolidation..lets say, if you decide to use a service offered by one of our

forum users that do that kind of work.

Sorry Joe..there just isn't any economical way out of this one.

Hi Carverman am fine with the shipping costs of the likes of StewMac and Guitarpartresource it is when you go on ebay and you find something like 4 knobs $8 plus $15 shipping because they have a min charge, then have to go elsewhere for another item and they also have a $15 min charge they soon add up to a ridiculous amount of shipping costs.....if that dealer had all the parts then the shipping is still $15 for all.

I did not think it would be that difficult to find a guitar parts dealer that all I need at a reasonable price Guitarpartresource is doing a good job my cart is filling up...thanks guys :-({|=

I love shopping....

  • 3 weeks later...

Well my parts arrived

P1010347.jpg

Some black pickguard material.....I have made templates for 2 pickguards. I took images of an original 1959 Levin 335 pickguard and Sheraton 1 1964 pickguard (for my E-by-G) and scaled them in photoshop to make the templates.

So just to get those cut out, finished, and drilled. The Sheraton pickguaard will have a 1964 foil Epiphone logo.

I have bought two mandolin style brackets gold for the Sheraton and nickel for the Levin.

4 witch hat knobs for the Sheraton with gold pointers, and a black switch tip.

My only two disappointments the glass slide was out of stock and the real bummer the Imperial tuning buttons do not fit my tuning machines....GRRRRRRRR

My Sheraton is off to the guitar tech for its new innards next Tuesday so I will hopefully well have the replica vintage pickguard made by then.......

TWANG........I am getting there man..........
