DR vs GHS strings any thoughts

I have been trying to source

 

DR Pure Blues Big n Heavy 10 13 17 30 44 52 strings on the net and here in Sweden very difficult to find

 

But I can get a brand I had not heard of before

 

GHS Guitar Boomers GBTNT 10 13 17 30 44 52.......

 

Anyone using these are they any good......$11 a set here in good old Sweden...

GHS makes some good strings, but they're not really my taste.

But I use DRs for my 5 string bass. Everything else gets Rotosounds.

GHS is ok, but not great like the DRs. GHS is like every other string ( SIT, Ernie Ball, D'Adarrios, all el-cheapos and made in the same factories) Dean Markley has their own factory, as does DR, so they are actually different, all others are the same.

 

Whats is cost to ship a small package from the states to there? I'll get you some DR's and mail em out if you like. They are a bit more here (like $10 vs $6 for the cheap brands) but still should be about the same as you buying the GHS if you do a few sets to offset shipping costs.

I had GHS strings on my Dot that I replaced with DR Pure Blues. I like the DR strings better. They sound better but I can't quite describe why. I am using 10-46.

Well, If DR guitar strings are anything like the DR bass strings, then they are great. I've used Ernie Ball, GHS and currently D'Adarrios on my bass, and none are as good as the DRs. The D'Adarrios are ok, but I really did not like Ernie Ball and GHS.

 

I picked up a few sets of Martin Custom electric guitar strings on sale awhile back. I absolutely loved them. But they are normally on the expensive side. I tend to stick with the D'adarrios for guitar. They are cheap, settle quickly and dont seem to break often (for me anyway) and I bend alot and often. The Martins seem to have a longer lifespan.

shipping cost for a heap of stuff I just bought from guitarpartsresource was $15

 

You can get normal DR 10's and 11's regular set no problem here , it is just less standard gauges like the Big n Heavy that are the problem to find.

 

So, I suppose I should try a little longer over here, then if it is not happening, I might take you up on that offer Musikron you can give me a price for 10 or 20 packets of the Pure Blues big n heavy and then slap on $15 for the postage.

 

Alternatively...if anyone on the forum works in a place, or knows of a place, that takes online orders for these please let me know.

 

I thought I would find them on e-bay but again all the regular gauges but not anything "exotic" like the Pure Blues Big n Heavy they are not to be found.

I know this is being picky but Thomann stock the "Dimebag" signatures which are the same gauge as what I want

I presume these will be different (maybe brighter or something) to the "Pure Blues" Big n Heavy (probably the same strings in a different packaging) even though the correct gauges.

 

Again like all the other outlets I have tried Thomann have the DR Pure Blues regular 10's.

 

Jeez, with all the online outlets available, all I want is a place where I can buy a few sets of DR Pure Blues Big-n-Heavy strings.....is that too much to ask........

Oh yes, DR strings are fantastic, and I have advocated them a lot on this forum. I use them on humbucker equipped guitars mostly, like my Les Paul. My Strat, Casino and Tele(s) all get Half Round D'Addarios, because I like the brightness, twang, and vintagey sound they offer.

 

But the DRs offer fantastic sustain and seem to last FOREVER. Even the regular old Tite Fits are good, I don't hesitate to pick up some of those if my local store doesn't have Pure Blues in stock. And, my favourite thing about the DR strings is their stability. Fit them, tune to pitch. Play for a bit, maybe 10mins. Retune. Done. No stretching required. The half rounds, and all D'Addario strings I've used, however, take AGES to become stable. I don't really like to stretch my strings, I let them bed in with playing. I'm forever retuning the half rounds until they become stable. I can live with it because they sound so great though.

I tried a couple sets of GHS Boomers (9-42 though, I don't think I could bend those rebar cables you're talking about) and noticed right away that they would last an entire week (6 gigs) and I didn't have to tune them up half as often as the EBs.

Hi Tulsa thanks for vote for the GHS's It will have to be those if I cannot source the DR Big n Heavy's

 

BB King likes to bend a string now and again and he uses a similar set....but even heavier on the bass side

Dime was a DR endorser. If his signature set is the gauge you want I say get em! Thats just his preferred gauge so they box em up with his face on the pack to sell more of them. Hell, you may even get a pack without his face if thats whats bothering you.

 

If it makes you feel better he was a great guy and guitarist.

Nickel strings the same gauge......they must be the same as "Pure Blues" I was just hesitant in case they were made any differently....windings etc......I will tell you what I will e-mail DR with my problem and if they say they are as near as dammit to the pure blues then I will order a heap of sets of Dimebags from Thomann (they should give me some free after the money I have just agreed to pay them for that 'bird)........
