SimpleJoe
Hello all! I have been searching for a hollow or semi-hollow guitar and am stuck between the Epiphone Nick Valensi Riviera with p-94's and the Casino. Now, I have been able to find and play the Casinos and I really like what i hear and how it plays, but the intrigue of the p-94's in the similar body (because for the most part, i can see no difference between them aside from the pups and the frequensator tail piece) is a big draw for me towards the Riviera. I have tried researching the Riv. but have found a lot of conflicting specs on the web and was just looking for some outside input on this matter before making my final decision. Any help and opinions are welcome! Thanks!
Elias Graves
Well, I guess you're getting an upgrade there, as the P94s are Gibson pickups. They are not, however, P90s and they don't sound the same. Close, but different. I suppose that's about all I can add there. EG
SimpleJoe
Thanks Peter! and to you as well Elias. Right there is something that I had been having a hard time deturmining about the Riv. Some sites said it was full hollow, some said semi, and I was getting confused. Now, What does that mean, a "deeper set neck"? advantages? disadvantages? haha, and sorry if I barage you with questions, but I really want to know as much as I can before tossing down the cash. Thanks -Joe
AS90
If I was going to buy a new Epi it would be a Valensi Riv.
MaxHart85231281734137
BEWARE!! Full hollow body means FEEDBACK when the gain is cranked up, a huge misconception when most people want a casino, id go with the P-94 semi will let you get dirty and not have any problems, orrrr I would go with the P93 Riviera...oh wait I got one! brianh
I have two non-Valensi Rivs - A Korean standard and a MIC P93, as well as an IBJL Casino. I've also got a P94 mounted in an LP Jr so know what they can sound like - it's a friggn' fantastic pickup. My long term plan is to get another P94 and move them both into the Std. Riv with a new wiring harness. If I were chosing between the two I'd definitely go with the NV Riv. Semi-hollow means less feedback, and therefore more flexibility. Plus it's a far less common guitar. The necks are the same width, and they meet the body in the same place unless you get a IBJL or 1965 series Casino. In any case they're both excellent choices, but the NVR has a slightly higher cool facter IMHO. I expect you will be knocked out by it.
SimpleJoe
Thanks for the advice and info everyone! I think i'm going to stick with my gut feeling and go with the Nick Valensi Riv. peeper
I really like the looks of that NV, I wish they would do a non artists model like that.... Guess I'll just have to make my own.

Just to stimulate a bit of drool, here's a few pics: Sweet, n'est pas? Cheers
weslee_1990
Yeah ive owned a Gibson les paul DC with p-90s and they hum like no other! All i can say is if you like a lot of overdrive or distortion then get the Reviera the p-94s can handle it alot better and a i owned a Gretsch 512 and it was kinda hard to control the feed back on stage. Thats my 2 cents hope it helps.
SimpleJoe
That is quite the beautiful guitar, Harp! I am deffinately pleased with my decision, if just for that reason right there! Was this thing ready to go right out of the box? or did it require a bit of tweaking to get it up to snuff?
