cunningham26
Hi Everyone, So I have been thinking about 335-styles lately and how one of my dream guitars is a ES-355, with the bigsby and stereo output. In the meantime, I was thinking, if i get a Sherri, it may be possible to refin it, get the bigsby, and fill the stopbar wholes with some...oh hell why don't I just get the P93? But the problem is, i want a humbucker guitar. I REALLY wish they would just release the P93 with buckers, because i love the gold, love the wine finish, and love having a 335 with a bigsby, but just want hbuckers dammit! Anyone else with me on this, or have I worked myself into a strange fit?
charlie brown
Well, being the owner of a AIUSA Sheraton, and a Riviera P-93, I can say I love the P-93 just as it is, for it's unique tonal possibilities. In fact, that's the real reason I bought it, along with the great price point. I love the fact, that you can get almost "Casino" like tones (save the natural true hollowbody resonance), and, with the addition of the middle pickup, and those tonal possibilities, get into "Gretsch like" tones, as well. I think, if you really want a "humbucker" guitar, and can't manage the price of a Gibson ES-355...then a Sheraton, or Epi's "Lucille" would be excellent alternatives. Dot's and Riviera's would be, also...but they aren't the "Bling" that you say you want/like. So...the Sheri or "Lucille" would be great! You could even add a Varitone and stereo wiring, to a Sheraton...if you don't care for the "Lucille" moniker, on the head stock, of that model. Lucille is great, though, without "f" holes, as it still has the tonal "warmth" of a semi- hollowbody, but is more resistant, to feed back, at higher volumes. Anyway, just some thoughts... You do know that P93 not a guitar model number, but refers to the 3 dog-eared P-90 pickups? You could get the Rivi and pop the P90's out and put mini-humbuckers in ( I believe mini hums drop into the same rout without further work - could be wrong), but you'll be left with the dog ear routs. Sorry, that's all I've got for you. Sheila
Hungrycat
Hmmm... I do likes me some humbuckers. I think if I HAD to have one, I'd really like one in an H-90-90 config. http://www.seymourduncan.com/products/custom-shop/specialized-1/p90_dog_ear_hum/ One of those (^^^^^^^^) in the bridge, and leave the middle and neck pups.
