peeper
Yea as long as you're happy. I just think you overpaid for such a poor DIY repair is all. But it is surely a refin candidate, just don't sink a bunch of money into it, I would do it myself. That guitar has been too abused to invest money in, that repair attempt could cause a major failure down the road and it would be a shame to have sunk a lot into it. But if you DIY the refin, you could do a basic finish for around $100 and some time.
brianh
I see good clean examples for around $350-$400 all the time. Thats why I feel he over paid for that one. With that kind of damage and poor repair I would not pay more than $200. The only non-vintage faded Gibby Junior/Special DC on eBay right now has a starting bid of $500 with 4 days to go. The next is currently bid at $700, with a BIN of $999. The rest range from $900 to $2,500 with a vintage one at $10k. http://shop.ebay.com/i.html?_nkw=Gibson+double+cut&_sacat=0&_trksid=p3286.m270.l1313&_odkw=Gibson+LP+double+cut&_osacat=0&bkBtn= I also did a national Craigslist search and found no Gibson DCs under $720. http://www.google.com/search?q=gibson+double+cut&oi=navquery_searchbox&sa=X&as_sitesearch=craigslist.org&hl=en&rlz=1R2GPEA_en So um, Ron - would you please PM me next time you see a clean example for $350-400? lpfan
Well I guess I'll do it myself. Can anybody give me a list of the supplies that they think I will need. I know that I need woodfiller and sandpaper. I'm not sure what to use to remove the finish. Should I just start sanding or use a heatgun or smething else? This is new to me. I'd highly recommend this book: http://www.amazon.com/Guitar-Finishing-Step-Step-Erlewine/dp/0977651908 Expensive, but it has EVERYTHING you'll ever need to know about refinishing a guitar - tools, supplies, methods, shortcuts, etc., and will save you a ton of time and money in the long run. But to answer your question, that guitar appears to have a non-poly finish on it (nitro perhaps?) so sandpaper is the way to go. Make sure to wear a mask or respirator... Ebay is becoming overpriced for the junk you could get, I think the bubble is bursting.
lpfan
I know its in bad shape but thats one of the reasons I went ahead with it. They are not that common. At least not localy where I live. I have only seen maybe 3 or 4 locally in the last year compared to 30 or 40 regular lp's locally.

I do buy guitars off Craigslist, because I can see/play them beforehand, and have been fairly lucky so far, only one clunker out of about 20, and that was because I didn't know what I was doing at the time. In any case I don't see LP Jr. DCs going for anywhere near the $350-400 range you mentioned, they are more in the $700 and up range. I'm happy to be disproven here, but talk is cheap, let's see some guitars for sale Ron...
