Mayhawk
Hi, newbie here..............I currently have several Gibsons, a '58 plaintop, an Oxblood '54, and an ES 175. I am looking at getting another LP historic but the serial number seems odd to me. It is 9312xx, and the guitar is supposed to be a '59 reissue. Shouldn't the number be something like 9-xxxx ? Just wondering........ And thanks!

3dmac
no 9312xx would be correct for a 59 reissue. In 1955 a sixth digit after the yr was added do to increased production #s. Both 5 and 6 digit #s were used.

Raptor
When production for the historics exceeds 999 guitars in a year, the gap vanishes and an extra digit is added.
