audiomitch
I just bought a used Epiphone Explorer bass from my local Craigslist. I love the bass so far, but am a little confused by the serial number. There's no country code and the first two numbers are 09. There are 10 digits in the serial, all numbers (no letters at all). The "0" at the beginning is EXACTLY like the rest of the zeros, so I don't think I'm misreading it as the letter "o". The previous owner must have peeled off all the stickers, but there's an "Epiphone Limited Edition Custom Shop" logo on the back of the headstock. According to all the info I could find, if there's no country code it means it's made in Japan. But doesn't that only apply to older "vintage" Epiphones? And lastly, it has a brass nut that looks like original equipment. Since I don't know the history of this bass it could have been installed by a good luthier. If so he did he excellent job. Did any Explorer basses come standard with a brass nut? Thanks!
pohatu771
No country code and a 2009 serial number makes it a Qing-Dao instrument. No country code and a six-digit serial makes it a Fuji-Jen Elitist from Japan, or a Kalamazoo instrument, which would be obvious.
