Fantana
the website doesn't say much about those pickups, however there's a great website called 'google' where you can search for anything, including pickup reviews! Infact here's an even better idea, why don't you go on to youtube and watch videos of people testing out lots of different types of pups or even go to your local guitar shop and play a few different models because until YOU'VE played them, you will have no idea what they'll sound like. tpurgatoryt
i was simply asking what sort of alnico's they were. if already gone through google, no help with the lack of the discription, but i thought some of you might have a stab at it. thanks for being a smartass. jammybstard
your PUps are like 90% the sound of your guitar; they're somthing you should be real carefull about, if all you care about is chrome, then buy some chrome covers, it'll be a lot cheaper! Fantana
thanks for being a smartass You're welcome, and I'm gonna do it again.................... It took me lesss than a minute using Google to find out that the pickups are made by a company called WSC (WooSung Chrous Industries) and here is the link http://www.wscmusic.com/1024/guitar_part/humbucker-01-lpsa.htm Looks like cheap chinese crap to me Even their website doesn't say what type of Alnico magnet is used, it just says 'Alnico Bar'
animalfarm
I see you've referenced an Australian Supplier with the link to the pickup you're asking about. We DO have other folks "from the Land Down Under" on this forum who may be able to send you in the direction of a closer supplier. That being said - I've purchased many pups from GuitarFetish and Ebay (following links indicate that BOTH will ship worldwide). http://store.guitarfetish.com/humbuckers.html I've purchased 2 sets from Guitarfetish - a set of "Fat Pat" boutique humbuckers, and a set of "V.E.H." (Vintage Extra Hot). Great prices, great sounds. The wiring diagram that comes with 'em is total doo-doo, so you'll have to use the Semour Duncan diagram. Unknown what shipping to Vegemite Central would be.... http://cgi.ebay.com/Epiphone-Les-Paul-Standard-Guitar-Alnico-Pickups-Pots-/390206350902?cmd=ViewItem&pt=Guitar_Accessories&hash=item5ada1c6636 A search on ebay is always useful, I've bought 5 or 6 sets for project guitars, always the "HOTCH(G) and 57CH" pickup sets, which come in a G-400 and Epi's Standard LP, Plus Top LPs, and the Ultra and Custom LPs. All Alnico Classic and Classic Plus pickups with alnico V magnets. The set I referenced in link is just an example, but has free "extra" parts for future use, if needed. Price-wise from either site, comes to about $25 USD per pickup (without shipping). This was my very first guitar project, has Epi G-400 pups. The stock Dean pups were..... BAD. It WAS a flat-black uglier than fugly string thru with all black hardware. My neighbor's son kept slobbering over it, finally wore me down, so I sold it to him. Really got the jones to do another one....

Also not sure if you are talking Aussie dollars or USD. If, however, you have $AUD 110 or so, then it woould be worth trying Tonerider Pups. You can get a pair of chrome covered Tonerider "Rocksong" Alnico 2 pups for about that price. I have a pair and they are good pups. Having said that, as Jammybstard says - chrome covers are cheaper if you like the pups you have. Good luck.
AS90
TP, try and keep everything in one thread, you have already been told about this! You will get more answers, its easier for other people to access the info and it keeps the board tidier. StewartB
pole spacing? D: That is the distance from the Bass E (6th string) polepiece to the Treble E (1st string) polepice. The polepiece is of course the screw underneath each string. I think the distance is 50mm for the Epi. You need to get the right spaced pickup cover otherwise the crews on each pup won't alighnwith the cover holes. the rest is easy. StewartB
