1964 Casino mods question

Recommended Posts

I have a mint 1964 casino that doesnt have the second stap button installed. Is it fine to have one installed on the back of the body near the neck without altering its vintage/value? Also, has the old epi style trem. Was considering a nickel B7 bigsby but concerned about new screw holes on the front. Any thoughts? thanks, joe

Adding a strap button would just be a venial sin. But get an original to match.

Put a Bigsby on it, you'll spend eternity in Hell.

Probably depends on what you want out of the guitar. If you plan to sell it I wouldn't be changing anything. If you are going to keep it then maybe add the Bigsby if that suits your needs. I'm not sure what a 1964 mint condition Casino is worth??

According to the Vintage Guitar mag price guide, a 1964 Casino in excellent condition is 4-5 grand. A strap button shouldn't do too much to value - don't wear a belt buckle when you play standing. Unless the change to Bigsby would make a big difference in your playing comfort and tone, don't do it. With vintage gear, you can always make changes later, but you can't undo a change. And you never know what you might sell later, even if you're sure you'll keep it forever.

just finished putting on the bigsby and painting it goth black.....just kidding. Thanks for the input. I think i'll just leave it alone. My new plan, bigsby B70 on my MIK casino and I'll just look at the '64 while i'm playing the other. Joe

I would say that adding a strap button sort of falls into the same category as doing a refret. It's sort of an essential modification that's done to keep the playability intact. Might affect overall value by under $100, but seeing where original 60's Casinos are in the $4000-$6000 range retail, I wouldn't lose too much sleep over that.
