GL passive pick up bare problem

Hi, does anybody know how to plug an additionnal bare cable and where to attach it?

I removed EMGs from my 88 GL and changed them for Duncans but I have a typical bare buzzz. I'm fighting to get it off but can't find a way. I tried many combinations but nothing seems to work.

If anyone has a clue, it would be highly appreciated :-)

Thank you,

Nicolas

Remove the trem and trap a wire between the body and the part or the baseplate that has had the finish filed away and attach the other end to the back of the volume pot (same as any other guitar.)

This pic shows the bit without the black.

Thanks a lot Eagle for your time and advices.

Yep I will find the way as I love this guitar so much, can't stay a whole month without playing on it.

Just to make everything clear, as I'm really NOT a specialist in electronics (or even in cabling) :

I have 2 humbuckers Duncan, one SH4 and... Well another for the neck :-) Both brand new.

Both have the black "hot" wires soldered to their little plot, and the 2 classic duncan metalic "tress" (1 for each humbucker), soldered to their previous slot "in line" with the hot spot. This was made by a guitar shop, I assume it's well done and the power of the pick ups is 100% ok, but maybe the guy is not really aware of the GL + EMG 81 "no bare" issue.

So I guess you're right, the trem cable, soldered on the back of the volume plot should work. I made tests and nothing really changes, or at least, not much. It was better for sure, but still a light "poc" when touching the output jack. Less than without anyway.

I first thought it was my amp or so, but all my other guitars (2 ibanez, strato, telecaster etc) are 100% silent, even bare foot.

I'll go ahead tonight with my cable tests but I would say the contact with trem is not sufficient, as you suggested.

I'll keep you posted anyway.

Many thanks.

Nicolas

Thanks. My problem is "the ground wire from bridge".. Is this this one supposed to connect the trem base ?

Ho in english, bridge means the "trem" part, if there's a trem, I guess. (I'm french, sorry).

As you know, GL stick has sort of an electronic plastic plate on wich pots and slots are fixed. It really doesn't look like this diagram, but I'll try to recable the whole thing.

Damned, I should have left the EMGs :-)

If you take out the EMGs you must replace everything as the pots are the wrong value.

take everything out and start again copy the diagram and all will be OK.

Buy two CTS 500KA pots,Sprague 0.047mfd cap, DPTP on/on/on switch and a Switchcraft jack from Allparts UK .

Ho my god ! Are you serious ? I have to replace everything? Damned.

Whith the new bare wire, I must say the "poc" noise are gone for 80%. Still a bit left but it's payable.

Ok, so I have to let it be done from scratch by someone who knows how to wire all this stuff. It's too far for me right now.

Funny because I often wanna turn the volume knob at "120%", as if the humbucker wasn't completely ON full power.

Can this impression come from the pot problem you mentionned?

Another issue : I tried to remove the whole trem block, but even with all screws out, the base wouldn't move at all ! Unable to trap a wire so I taped it with strong plastic tape on the lower part of the trem. It works quite fine actually but it's too bad. If only I took time to get informations about EMGs active wiring, and the "danger" of removing it in Steinbergers configuration.

Anyway, thanks for your precious help, it all begin to make sense.

Regards.

Nicolas
