Guitarnut
Hello all. I've had my BC30 for a little over a week...loving it so far but I wanted to upgrade the tubes. So, I ordered in some Sovtek and JJ, removed the back of the amp cab and surprise, this amp has been dropped and dropped hard during shipping. Transformers are askew and the left hand speaker is holding on by 1 bolt. I notified the carrier and they have a claim in progress. I've been playing at such low volumes, I didn't notice anything out of whack sonicly... the speaker is in place, just sagging from the lack of tight bolts. The more immediate concern is one of the power tubes was also jolted to the left like the tramsformers. As I eased it out of the socket, I noticed the index pin was broken off in the socket. I managed to get all of the sides out but the round part that would be the top of the pin is deep in the socket. I removed the tube from the other socket to see if the piece might just push up into the chasis for later removal but there appears to be a plate of some sort on top of the sockets...probably the PCB. Any suggestions on how to remove the last bit? I thought of using an Xacto knife to gently break it up...the plastic is very brittle. But I'm not able to discharge the filter caps at this point and I don't want to poke anything metal around in there just yet. Any help much appreciated. Guitarnut
After posting, I got the idea to use a small plastic rod with a dot of Weldon 16 cement on one end. I could ease it up into the socket and let it cure. I use the same cement for guitar bindings, and small laminations...I'm thinking it would give a strong enough bond to pull that sucker out of there. What do you think? K.E.B.1281734147
I'm thinking you could poke it out from the other side. Here's a pic of my old Epi Standard. See that hole(s) in the middle of the tube socket(s)?

See that hole(s) in the middle of the tube socket(s)? Thanks. I thought of that but the sockets are soldered to the PCB in the BC30...no holes in the center. You can see the two 6L6 sockets at the bottom center and right in this pic. I wish it were that easy though. Peace, Mark
Guitarnut
Well, it's out. My plan to use the Weldon 16 cement worked like a charm. I cut two small pieces of .060" plastic binding and glued them together on their sides. I then cut a notch in the end that was deep enough to reach the bottom of the socket and narrow enough that it didn't touch the sides of the socket. With the amp upside down, I then applied a small dab of cement to the end of the binding and eased it into the socket. It centered itself due to the curvature of the remaining plastic pin in the socket. I held it in place for about a minute until the cement started to take hold, then let it cure over night. This morning I was able to slowly pull it from the bottom of the socket. It eased up to the top and then popped out...breaking into smaller pieces as it cleared the edge. All clean and clear. K.E.B.1281734147
Hey, good news. Glad to hear it worked out for ya. Now at least you can play it while you wait for the replacement. Good job!
Cheeks
I would have done exactly what you have done... used a stick and glue. On seeing the transformer askew... all i can say is that someone somewhere launched that sucker across the room. It takes a lot of power to do that... There could be a Blues Song in this somewhere...
