SLASH #1 LES PAUL STANDARD AGED & SIGNED

One of the most respected and iconic guitar players of all time, Slash has symbolized the power of rock & roll ever since blasting out of the mid-1980s LA club scene with Guns 'n' Roses. Armed with a Gibson Les Paul Standard, Slash revitalized the electric guitar with some of the most incendiary and melodic playing of all time, and became the new definition of a guitar hero. The new Gibson Custom Shop Inspired By Slash Les Paul Standard is a recreation of his #1 Les Paul Standard guitar played during his rise to superstardom, down to the authentic cigarette burn mark on the body, every detailed feature has been faithfully reproduced.

Here are the 1st pics taken at the NAMM 08

Another new slash signature (seems to be the same than mine), but without piezo

and the copy back, then the original back

The wear on the copy seems quite "cheap" or false, don't u think ?

Do you have further information about these guitars (because 8 new slash singatures were announced), because here in France, no way to get any info...

thanks and take care

am i the only who thinks it's a little silly to buy a guitar that is already beat to hell just so you can have one that is similar to your idol's main axe? i guess maybe if you're a collector...

But for a guy like me it seems that 1) it's more fun just to beat the hell out of your own axe over the years 2) if you can afford the >5k price tag that is likely (see ridiculously price Jimmy Page models), then just buy a more vintage instrument.

i would much rather have Gibson just make a Les Paul with the different PUs, killswitch, etc and charge what a normal Les Paul costs. I want to put my own cigarette burns on my guitar, not pay someone hundreds of dollars to do it for me.

I completly agree with u.

They should normally release the original one as well, without the wears....

I also agree with you two. I never understood the relic guitars. It seems to me that when a guitar is dented, scratched etc., that would decrease the price of the instrument. I know that many owners of these relic'd guitars say that they have the vintage vibe but for a little less money. I don't even agree with this because I have seen some custom shop relic'd guitars that are ungodly expensive.

I fully Agree!

I would not want to spend my hard cash on a guitar that has a deliberate Cig burn on it!

How you meant to spot the poor workmanship when its full of dents and scratches etc....

Hmmnn..I thought Slash's rise to fame was with a Les Paul COPY, but after he made some money he got the real thing.

Also, I thought one of those previous Slash signature Les Pauls (from about 3 or 4 years ago?) had the bridge saddles all set "even" which is completely wrong for intonation. Is that the way Slash really had his guitar set? And he liked the intonation that way? Anyway, it's not my place to argue with a guy of Slash's guitar playing stature. Sweet Child of Mine is one of the greatest Les Paul songs of all time.

My 2 cents worth on the relicing thing. I think it's silly & pointless, but each to their own. I like stoof's point about releasing the original/un-worn version of great artists' guitars.

Hey, I'm going to start a "new" trend of slashing (no pun intended) my new jeans, after I've firstly stone-washed them to wafer thin thickness. When the fashion changes or they simply wear out (real soon), I suppose I'll have to buy another pair of jeans.

two of the things i want to do before i die

1) jam with jimmy page

2) have my own custom shop replica model

call me crazy, but when im old and i look @ my first gibson ( cherryburst studio) i want to see somethand worn out and beat to hell, BY ME.

so beaten up the guitar for yourself is the fun i guess (sounds so horrible but you know what i mean)

When I first heard about this guitar, I thought it was his 1959 Replica. When i saw the pic, I thought "wow. That has got to be one nice lookin guitar (Past all the aging of course)"

I saw a Youtube video about ALL of slash's guitars. I could not find a single picture of this guitar anywhere in his collection.=D>

I found one like it, but it was more flamed and darker than it.

I just dont understand why they want to sell a beat up guitar that claims its a slash "signature" when he doesnt even have one of that color. I mean, the signature is cool and so is the finish, but why are you going to play a beat up guitar that has slash's signature on its. That would decrease its value.

By the way, how much do they cost?

I've allway been a little iffy on the whole Signature Model thing. Wasn't it just a few years ago that Nancy Wilson was doing ads for Takamine acoustics and now she has a signature Martin acoustic out and acting like she's been using them for years. I think it has more to do with $$$ than respect for fans.

The whole Relic or New/Used guitar thing seems silly too. Isn't part of the fun of having an old beat up guitar is remembering where all those nicks and scrathes came from? Not paying someone else to beat it up in a custom shop for you.

New Slash signature Les Pauls revealed

Guns N' Roses and Velvet Revolver fans excited by our report on new Slash guitars should get ready for some seriously drool-worthy guitar porn.

Indeed, any fans of Gibson Les Pauls in general should prepare to salivate at the selection of Slash signature instruments that Gibson has announced.

1 April 2008 sees selected dealers offering a one-off chance to buy a trio of Slash signature models from Gibson Custom, Gibson USA and Epiphone. Supplies are strictly limited and once they are gone, you guessed it, they are gone.

MusicRadar saw the Custom Shop VOS model in the flesh at NAMM, and it's a real beauty. Expertly aged, the instrument is an accurate, detailed replica of the Les Paul that set stages alight across the world on Guns N' Roses mammoth, debauched Appetite For Destruction world tour and it's set to retail for $5880.

For the slightly less well-heeled fan, the Epiphone model has a more wallet-friendly RRP of $1464 and comes with high-end specifications such as a vintage-correct long neck tenon and Seymour Duncan Alnico Pro II pickups.

Sitting somewhere in-between, the Gibson USA Slash model is $3499 and features include a one-piece mahogany neck and TonePros hardware.

Expect these guitars to be launched with a serious flourish including global personal appearances by the man himself. By all accounts, there are five more models to come, so stay tuned. In the meantime, stop reading this and look at the pictures!
