deepblue Posted August 5, 2008 Posted August 5, 2008 I want to take my pups off to see and photograph the cavities etc... any advice on taking them off?
littlekenny Posted August 5, 2008 Posted August 5, 2008 I'm pretty sure that if you just unscrew the 4 screws in the pickup rings that the ring and pickup will come off as one so you won't have to adjust your pickups when you put them back in. It works for my Ibanez anyway.
DoubleSixx Posted August 5, 2008 Posted August 5, 2008 Just un-screw the pickup ring. Don't completely un-solder etc. Use a thick towell on the surface of the guitar to snap your pics with the pickups on the towell. Should be quick and less painfull than posting about electrical gremlins etc. Be gentil, should be enough wire that you can lift out and take a picture and not see the towell, just the braided wire will show a little. Good luck.
Tim Plains Posted August 5, 2008 Posted August 5, 2008 Unscrew the four corner screws, don't touch the two in the centre. The pickup and the pick up ring will lift right out. The two times I did it, I didn't rest the pups on the guitar's top. Stick a cotton rag or a cleaning cloth under neigh. Or, put each pick up in a sock...but don't let Axe see the socks 'cause he'll get a boner. Are you just doing it for the h*ll of it, or are you looking for some long tenon?
surfpup Posted August 5, 2008 Posted August 5, 2008 Best advice I can give is don't drop the screwdriver on the guitar top! Actually covering as much of the top as possible w/ a rag is always a good idea. When I Virtuoso polished the top of mine I wrapped the pups in small rags secured them with rubber bands so I could move them around to polish. You might not need to go that far if you are only wanting to look inside the cavities. Just lay them gently on a rag covering the surface of the guitar. And don't forget to take pics of course!
