These keep coming up under "ugly" in the forum. I need to ask.

i got a BFG because of the chambering and PU combo. i LOVE LPs, and this one allows me to do the hollowbody thing and the LP thing at the same time if needed.

the Std is still the Std. And the Gecko is just nasty. i bought the BFG because i had no choice. there is NO reason to buy the Gecko. lots of other choices.

and honestly the BFG does look kinda cool in person. at least my gold one does.

+1

What led me to the BFG was the P90/Burstbucker combo, not available on any other mode; The Gecko, well, other than the odd colour how is it different?

Neither. I think the gold BFGs look pretty cool and the gecko is at least something different from the rest of the burst finishes I see over and over again. Although, I think the gecko finish would look better if it started out yellow in the middle then went green on the way to finally being blue towards the outside rather than being just yellow to green and, rather than going to a solid color on the outside, keep it a stain.

I picked the Gecko? it's a standard and I could refinish it at least or just set it in the sunlight (for a few freakin years) and come up with a natural Standard. I have the gloss black Studio BFG for the electronics but I'm not a fan of Studio's really and the regular BFG would take way to much work to make me want it, starting with inlay's, Knobs, Sanding, Finish, new hardware across the board it would cost way to much.

Now my BFG required nothing...

For you new guys I have a guitar that several actually thought was worse than a Gecko. it's a Mardi-Gra limited edition that was made to raise money for the Katrina victims all hand painted and number and this fine group of guys on the forum lovingly named the color PUKE

Oh well some things are limited for a good reason, although I kind of like this guitar so there's always something for everyone or as PT Barnum said a "Theres a fool born every second" guess this was my second.

Ok, what do you mean BFG "std"? Meaning the original 3 colors?

Well either way, of course im going BFG look at my avatar.

That's solely on out of the 2 which would I pick if I had nothing. Of course having a BFG i'd go with the gecko since I don't already have a standard.

I really dont get why you guys are so hard on the BFG. Yeah so its rough. that's the only drawback I can see for argument.

I like the way it looks and love the way it sounds and feels.

I can think of a couple uglier Les Pauls than the BFG

1. Les Paul Menace - What's with the grooves in the body and goofy looking headstock logo and inlay?

2. Les Paul Firebrand - raw and unfinished should have been for that thing. Looks like a Epi LP special

Of course this ia all matter of opinion.l

I REALLY don't get the ripping on BFG's, I like 'em.

P.S. what does it stand for?

Bad F-ing Guitar

Bar fight gang

Balloon fire god

I'm pretty sure it stands for Barely Finished Guitar

i think a lot of people are enamoured with the traditional LP shape and finish, that's why the BFG puts them off so much. I think if everyone played one, they would come around. The P90 is sweeeet.
