donald1956 Posted August 8, 2008 Posted August 8, 2008 I recently bought an ebony double cut LP from GC, I think it was an "exclusive" model to them last year. I like the tone and the looks a lot, but the frets took some getting used to. They look like either a) square wire was used or they were leveled without being crowned. Does anyone know which is the case? The fret ends are also covered with binding. It looks as if very wide binding was used then cut away between the frets. I saw frets exactly like this on a 339, so I know it isn't just for their "cheap" guitars. I don't consider 1800 a cheap guitar! Does Gibson do this procedure to all their bound fretboards now, and what is the reason? Thanks in advance for the info.
Out_Of_Control Posted August 8, 2008 Posted August 8, 2008 Ah Yes, the Gibson Jumbo Fret! Gibson has been using them for many years, you'll get used to them, and once you do, you'll love em! Those frets also last a very long time, unlike Epiphone frets which are soft and wear out quickly.
