I don't know if this is a guitar or an amp problem.

When I my amp is on it makes a noise, I can't really explain it, so I have a video.

I just replaced the straplocks on my LP but I doubt that that could do this.

P.S. I looked on the JVM forum, they said that buzz was normal and to run this amp at hight gain (I run it at 10) you need a noisegate. BUT even on my more mellow channels it makes this awful noise.

Did you install Schaller strap locks? Anything else can cause all sorts of trouble....

:-)

Seriously, I don't know.

Start cheap and simple.

Did you try a different cord between the amp and guitar?

If all you have is one, unplug it and swap ends.

Might need to get a ground lift from the hardware store, I did that for my amps to stop 60 cycle hum.

From my limited 14 year old brain I would say that it's a bad ground. Have you tried plugging it into different outlets? If it's not the amp then it's the guitar or cable.

Your limited 14 year old brain fixed it.

Thanks!

Damn 14 year old knowitall kids....

OP, I can't make out your avatar pic.

Does it say Guitars and Effects?

I bought a guitar from a guy named Nat Bradley in 2003, my first Ebay purchase.

His company is called Guitars and Effects, located in Maryland.

Maybe a ground problem... are you using with a costco 99 buck guitar?

Just kidding... try connecting the amp to a different wall outlet.

The problem could be caused by a faulty tube... how long have you had those tubes in the amp? Are they the original ones (the tubes that come with amps this days are "just for testing the amp" IMO, the first thing I do when buying an amp is checking the price its tubes sell to, order some tubes and change them as soon as I can.

Kenny, you actually didn't fix it, the reason I thought you did was because I was testing it at like 1am and I couldn't turn it up very loud at all.

Thunder, I tried a different wall outlet. Nothing.

When I got the amp it was a floor model, lot's of 11 year olds playing with the tubes, that could easily be it.

the vid doesnt vork for me it says it was deleted' date=' im am pretty good with stuff like this[/quote']

I took it off 'cause I though it was fixed.

Basically it's just idle noise, not buzzing, just a steady hsshhhhh.

I don't know if that does anything for you.

ok try using a different cable into the amp, if that doesn't work, see if the wire down to the speakers is loose, and another thing might be the tubes are loose so try to push the tubes in a little more but don't force them you don't wanna break em'. and make sure the amps off when you try it

oh, is the hissing really high pitched like a squeel than a pre amp tube is burnt out or your pickups are microphonic or something in the amp has become microphonic, i heard tubes can become microphonic too.

oilpit, do you have a lot of dimmers on the lights in your house? If so, try it with those lights out. I have a problem in my house with my office due to a dimmer on the same electrical circuit. (Does that mean a bad ground?)

If the TV in my room is on, my amp makes a buzzing noise that sounds like hair clippers, but only if my guitar is plugged in. Makes it hard to watch the game and rock out at the same time which is a drag sometimes.
