Great voices in rock

Recommended Posts

All, good examples...

However, I seem to like distinctive, even unique voices,

more than just "great" ones. Janis Joplin, Chrissie Hynde,

Joan Jett, Janis Ian, Dylan, Leonard Cohen, Neil Young,

"The Beatles(All)," David Crosby, Stephan Stills, etc...

and other's, where their voices, fit thier music!

DirecTV is showing a new (2010) "Classic Albums" episode on VH1 Classic as I type this.

Tom Petty - Damn the Torpedoes

Channel 337 if you have a DTV dish.

Mike Campbell is one of my favorite guitar players.

Not a keyboard fan, but I would have Benmont Tench in my band in a heartbeat - very tasteful.

" Oh TOTO, I have the feeling we're not in KANSAS anymore." [biggrin][scared]

How about a Toto Kansas Reunion tour? (perhaps union since there's no re-union)

With Boston? [crying] singing Sweet Home Alabama. OK enough from me.

Paul Carrack - really great stuff.

I like the Finn Brothers for a role in the slightly underrated singers category. Especially stuff on Woodface.

Heard this old one on the radio today, and it seems to fit this thread... Always liked the vocal

In the same vein; Dave Mason still has it:

Thankyou, I always wondered who sang this...I had speculated it may have been Billy Preston...Many good and obscure posts...

I'm suprised Rod Argent hasn't been mentioned yet ( Zombies and Argent ) Hold Your Head Up and God Gave Rock and Roll to You.....

( Has anyone mentioned Paul Carrik yet ? [scared][blink][wub][-X#-o[omg][lol] )

Yep - agreed.

How about another pop guy?

Robert Palmer.

Much of his music was not my cup of tea, but I would have loved to have a front man like him in my band.

Robin Zander of Cheap Trick was another one I always thought played the role just right.

Did anybody mention Chris Robinson of Black Crowes?

The guy is a fruit cake, but he's got a unique set of pipes.

And I think pipes is what this thread is about, ya fruitcake! [flapper]
