renin74 Posted August 12, 2008 Posted August 12, 2008 57 classics are alnico II, have lower output, more vintage. Burstbucker pros are alnico V, hotter, more modern sounding.

ToneQuest Posted August 28, 2008 Posted August 28, 2008 Only BB are potted ! Are you sure only BB are potted? My understanding is that the '57 classics are potted, BB Pro's are potted, but BurstBucker #1,2 and 3 are not potted. I think the BB pro's are potted because of the higher output, to reduce the chance of feedback etc
bobv Posted September 22, 2008 Posted September 22, 2008 Wax came out from under the adjustable polepiece screws when i adjusted them on the '57 Classic PAF's on my ES-339, so I'm certain they are potted. Same for the 490R and 490T's I put into my Epi Dot. Now, my understanding is that the Burstbucker 1 & 2 in the Historics are not wax potted, but the V/Pro in the latest incarnations of standards are potted.
