Looking to buy LP Custom need advice on which year! Please help

Recommended Posts

I've stopped playing 20 yrs ago and getting back into playing again.

Things have changed with so many models etc.

Its become big business.

I want to buy a used Les Paul custom (I like the ebony fretboard) and want to spend $1500-$2000.

I have time to find a 'deal' on craigslist.

My question is what years should I be looking for?

What do I need to know?

I don't need the best but I want to stay away from bad years.

A little lighter in weight LP would be nice if I'm not giving up too much in quality and sound.

Thanks for the help!

No such thing as good/bad years. Rate each guitar individually; regardless of what year it was made.

Read this and you'll be a LP pro. http://www.mylespaul.com/forums/gibson-les-pauls/50210-gibson-les-paul-101-a.html

What is light in your opinion? '54 & '57 Customs will probably be the lightest since they don't have any maple but they're also the most expensive. They can be anywhere from 8 - 10 lbs. Regular and '68 Customs are generally going to be in the 10 - 12 lb range.
