Airport body scans anybody?

Pretty sure I addressed that already. Twice.

The wife and I have a simple fix for all the Airline crap.

We don't fly.

No body cavity searches, no invasion of privacy, no price gouging for luggage or any of that piracy.

I don't fly, and given how many airlines have gone under, or been bought out, and the hoops they are currently jumping through to maintian profitablility, it looks like I'm not the only one.

Perhaps, when they've all gone under, someone with a clue will build a better airline. It IS the way of the free market economy, is it not? Poor businesses fail and are replaced with more efficient ones.

So... no one wants to take a stab at the points I brought up? Just continuing to fire away with why it's ok to keep being reactionary?

Hmmm. [sad]

I'm a believer in "the world is what you make of it."

Perhaps this is not as accurate as you may think.

It seems as if, perhaps, you've given over that responsibility to others, and are now just going with the flow.

Just an outside perspective, fi you're into that kind of thing.

I DO appreciate your not giving a long winded Freedom speech, though!!

I've tried not to get all philosophical, as well :)

I get it, but you're talking to a guy that's been around the world at least 15 times. And I've had the pleasure to interact with many cultures.... For the most part we all want the same things, in terms of things that are best for those that are close to us.

I agree 100% that we are dealing, by and large, with society's fringe elements.

While I've not been around the world so much as once, I've been blessed with experiencing folks from a multitude of different cultures in my lifetime.

I think you're spot on that we're not all that different in what we basically want.

He'd be furious!!!

But only because he grew hemp......

[laugh]

LOL - That's good.

He probably would've wanted each state to have its own set of regulations though. So you'd might scanned at arrival instead of departure. [biggrin]

I'm a believer in "the world is what you make of it."

There are nearly 200 other countries out there to choose from.

I encourage people to go make whatever they want, if they can't find it already exists somewhere.

I'll stay here and stick with Tom Jefferson, Ben Franklin, and the original owners manual for liberty.

I've had it up to here with the misguided fools pushing "the USA is what WE make of it" agenda.

Oh, and the TSA baloney?

It STILL would not stop 9/11 - The Sequel.

Don't need box cutters - as long as you get a plastic spork with your inflight meal.

A Beretta 9mm with frangible ammo will shut down anybody coming through the cockpit door.

Explosives?

Lotsa technology in place already, sniffers, dogs, etc.

Thermal imaging is VERY effective at locating any quantity.

Cut the crap about profiling, and start doing the JOB.

Airlines wanna set up a frequent flyer program maybe?

Like an express line for people willing to undergo more detailed checks in advance to get a card?

Okay.

I probably couldn't ever fly public airlines anyhow, my surgeon refused to give me a "verification card" for this:

GarysCam050.jpg

because I told him he was a quack and threatened to sue him for ripping a muscle in the back of my neck installing it.

I'd probably have a meltdown when TSA wanted to "poke thru my stuff" anyhow, I value my privacy a little more than that, you know, something in our CONSTITUTION about unreasonable search.

Woe....They're putting those in the new Firebird X thingees !!!!!!!!

Sorry 'bout your injury...not fun..

Only a small amount of cargo is inspected and that includes the US mail. As Chan says, see where this is going? We close the barn door after the cows have gotten out.

Good point grampa.....Much of what is done is smoke and mirrors; if it works, great...Body scans, pat downs, whatever, the possibility/probability of bad stuff happening again is real; we can't deny that. I don't decide what works and what doesn't; I care, but I'm willing to take the odds on being on a flight that isn't gonna blow up. Usually what Neo says I tend to agree with and I am not a registered republican...Grampa's point is true though... And: Real airport security and flight security is Isreali airport stuff.......

And in jest; Chan forgot to mention that playing modern country music in airports and on planes can be lethal and should be banned.....I would also like to see T&A security replace TSA security; make the experience much more stress free, and the touchee feelee part enjoyable..What are we gonna do when bed bugs start threatening airport security ??? Delay flights while all passenger clothing is de-bugged for a week ??? I'm all for getting the bad guys before they get us.....

"Freedom is just another word for 'nothing left to lose.'"

"They" were disenfranchized, marginalized, and ignored by we. We paid no mind while they rotted and died in squalid surroundings hiding our eyes to their existence (easily done until technology changed the gameplan).

They will exist until we commit to restore and guard vigilant equality of humanity. But until then, "they" are free. We are imprisoned by our gold-gilded empire.

So if we fly planes into their buildings we'll be free?eusa_think.gif

LOL!!

Funny response, but truly, truly sad in reality.

We should let them tap our phones, too, because someone could be plotting something.

Oh, and read our mail, electronic and snail, prior to delivery, in case some one is plotting something.

Might consider forcing folks to get pre-approved government travel vouchers to prove that they have permission to board the plane, too. Only issue them to folks after they'ed passed a psychological screening and background check.

You DO want to be safe, right?

It's such a little thing, freedom. I'm sure no one will miss it.

It's smoke and mirrors boys. We're PI$$ED at the airlines and its infringement on our rights while major political dealings are underfoot that will challenge our nation as we know it.

Once they control your money, your travel and your communication.................hmmmmm there is a history of this before.

1. Profile.

2. Quiz anybody they want - extensively. Can't have THAT in the USA, but groping yer wife is fine.

3. Kill anybody who acts violently against their interests.

All of that is too barbaric for all the "progressives" who think we've "progressed" past human nature.

Well, I read today that a Congressman has proof that the photos we see of these scans are altered to some degree. Supposedly he can prove that the scans show extreme detail of your body, and in his words are pornographic. Apparently he is going to try and get the process held more accountable come January when the new regime of liars, um, I mean politicians take over.

I especially love how they get around every question put to them from any source by simply saying we won't explain ourselves for security reasons if we explained how and why we do things differently every day the evil doers would use that info against us.

Research the SPOT program if you want a real laugh. The TSA agents can't figure out basic gravity like the fact that I cannot walk if I remove my artificial leg and there going to figure out SPOT.

I have been asked three times in the last year if I can take my leg off before going through security? They look right at it and ask me if I can walk without it and it is clearly artificial from the knee down. On each of those occasions when I have explained that I can't take more than one step then I fall down, they have called the supervisor over. How smart is that, My dog has this figured out but them ???

The body scanners are just another huge waste of money so that the TSA can justify that they exsist.

I'm all for searches, because this is the age we live in. However, this is down right ridiculous.

Once, just once retrosurfer, remove your prosthesis, place it on the belt, then sit on the floor. [sneaky]

Sometimes all people need is a visual aid.

Some really sad and scary comments in here, it's amazing how many of our rights mean nothing to the wimpy sheep many of our citizens have become. The TSA is a sad joke built as frosting on the security cake that we are all are supposed to believe protects us. for those that have no issue with the TSA flunkies violating our rights searching us and even worse doing excessive police style pat downs on people who are not criminals, suspected only of wanting to fly somewhere. Well congrats next time your near a mirror look at yourself and realize you are the problem with America, rather than demand correction and accountability, no you accept it as the easy way to get through the day repeating the cowards mantra of not rocking the boat. Rights slip away in tiny pieces that mean little at that exact moment in time but mean everything in the big picture. The only truly good that might come out of Americas divided House and Senate may well be the Republicans doing away with the sad joke of this TSA farce. Republicans never supported this mess and hopefully they'll kill it now and these TSA quasi-proffsionals will be back doing the job they are fit for in drive throughs across America.

I find this thread quite fascinating. IMO it as most political as any thread I have seen here and yet not only does Meine Moderator not close it, he actively participates. Don't get me wrong, I don't think any thread should be stifled or close but come on, how do you spell hypocrite? B)

[crying]

That's the most beautiful thing I've read here in a long time!

And ZenKen, it's not the "P" word - it's a commentary on our society and what we've "progressed" into.

One airport in Florida is threatening to pull the TSA out completely and replace them with private security.

BRAVO!!! [thumbup]

I've seen no politics, per se, but I've seen lots of different opinions, and I, for one, am quite pleased at how civil the whole discussion has been.

My son informs me that Las Vegas airport utilizes a puffed air/sensor system to check for any trace of explosives. Non-invasive use of technology.

Oh... and if they were SERIOUSLY wanting to protect the people, given the fact that all the planes that have been brought down by bombs had the bombs in the cargo hold, why aren't we sending the people in one plane and cargo in another?

Too. Much. Money.

We want to be safe, but we don't want to pay for it. So much easier to just be told we're safe, even if we aren't. It's like putting a picture of a lock on a door... it'll keep the honest folks out....

Yep.

Puffers don't work for ALL explosives though - there's their excuse.

Going to work at the nuke is like the TSA every day.

Drive through a remote checkpoint with AR-15s on every shoulder and 9mms on every hip.

Random vehicle searches are done in addition to the expected badge check, flashlight in the windows, etc.

Vehicle must be badged as well.

Random searches mean EVERYTHING is opened in your vehicle with somebody in each door/hatch/toolbox.

Mirrors underneath.

They swipe your doorhandles, steering wheel, etc for explosives.

I've been caught three times for gunpowder...

If you're one of the 2500 people who work in an office building and never actually enter the plant itself, you're good.

You drive another mile to a parking lot in the middle of nowhere.

For operations folks (only 15% of the total workforce) then you park half a mile from the gate and walk.

First is the metal detectors - ANYTHING with metal goes through the X-ray.

This might mean your shoes because the metal eyelets set it off. Pull 'em and place them on the conveyor.

You can forget wearing jewelry.

Then the X-ray guy asks you to unpack your lunch, computer, open any books...

Next, you go to the puffers - and you cannot wear your hat there.

Then it's to the locking turnstile for biometric ID.

Scan your badge, then place your hand on the reader - it might let you in.

If not, you're late for work while security investigates YOU.

Next is a series of tiny numbered shelves - thousands of them.

Your personal thermo-lumenescence device is parked there without your name - remember your number.

It must be worn at ALL times, security will escort you out if you are spotted without it.

The idea is that it will record any spikes in exposure - especially if you're doing something scary...

Then you walk another 1/4 mile to one of three operating units.

12 hour shifts are ALWAYS 13 hours, more during maintenance outages when it can take 30 minutes in traffic

just to get to the first gate. Then finding a parking space is worse than Christmas at the mall.

Improper parking is considered a security risk, with severe penalties.

Operations folks will be fired for second offenses because they should know better.

"Nuclear power is special and unique" is their favorite saying.

Second is "Trust permeates the organization."

Any of us in operations could tell you where the biggest weaknesses are in their security, relatively speaking.

But the Department of Energy, Nuclear Regulatory Commission, and corporate management respond only to what "official audits" find.

Another saying I coined myself -

"Increases in stupidity aren't directly linked to rank in the organization, they are logorithmic."

EVERYTHING is a security risk, and EVERYTHING is for your own good.

When I compare what I see in nuke power to the stupid sh!t at the airports, I refuse to comply.

I direct you back to the Cessna 210 Turbo in the initial post.

Wow! [scared]

And I thought I had it rough as a Xerox tech when some places had to search the vehicle!

How do they handle those folks, Neo? Not to derail the thread, but I carried over $3000 worth of parts inventory and it would take me litterally days to have opened and resealed every box...
