Maybe I'm Nuts, but...

I was thinking...

what if someone [me] tracked down a 1275 double neck , [with maybe a busted or ruined 6 string neck] and put the 12 string neck and nut and tunomatic bridge on a les paul special [with a broken neck][flat body to use 1275's unique stop bar] ... and

made a 12 string les paul... would it be considered a modded les paul, a waste of 2 broken guitars, or what?

i used to love playing my epi 1275... but since i got my lp... grrr i want the 12 strings, but on a single neck [1275 is heavy lol]

has anyone ever tried this, or heard of it?

or, if someone just found a way to fit 6 'keyless tuners'onto a les paul headstock...would the stability of the headstock and neck be weakened much? i figure i can just barely fit the extra 6 holes and avoid the gibson inlay, butmight hit the 'les paul model'silkscreen in center of headstock....

but wouldn't it be cool to see?

might take me some time to track down parts.... hardest part will prolly be finding a couple guitars that are broken in a way that i can still use the 'leftovers... but if/when i pull it off i will definitely take pics...took me like 15 yrs to get a gibson les paul... i figure i can pull this endeavor off in about a year or 2 lol...

a set of black steinberger gearless tuners could be 'almost invisible' on a normal headstock, maybe illiminating the need for a 1275 headstock..... i'm thinking, though... i wanna do this....

What do you think would be harder (ie. more expensive)?

1) Removing the necks from two different guitars (keeping one useable) and reinstalling that neck on one of them hoping to get the placement dead-on?

or

2) Taking one guitar, adding four or five inches inches of wood to the headstock and installing six additional tuners?

Why buy two guitars to make one and wind up throwing most of one away. Just start with the guitar you want and mod it.
