8-string T-Bird !

Recommended Posts

When it's laid down, does the neck look like

an aircraft carrier flight deck?

I know nothing of Brain Wheat and his 8-string,

which might be an extended range bass, but I

have no idea. The 8-string T-Bird, and thus by

implication the meaning of "8-string" for this

thread, would be a 4-course 8-string OCTAVE

bass, same idea as a 12-string geetar.

Necks on octave instruments are generally just

slightly wider than their conventional cousins.

IOW, an 8-string OCTAVE neck is similar to a

rather narrowish 5-string neck [like a "16mm at

the bridge" spaced 5-string].

I had a Yamaha TRB 6-FL with 19mm bridge

spacing, and that neck was often compared

to an aircract carrier ... especially without the

speed bumps !

Too bad there was nothing on that bass that

corresponded the steam catapults !
