Neck preference

I'm a bit torn on this one. I've been a life-long fan of 60's necks, but ever since I played that fat neck ES-335, I've grown accustomed to it.

I thought I liked the 50s neck better until I got AL-230. My hand seems to function better on the 60s profile. Of course, the ES-355 guitar is different so maybe not a fair comparison. Anxious to try this asymetrical 2008 neck to see what it's all about.

I got a 60's neck... it was faster. But the 50's neck felt more comfortable. I don't reckon I've ever held an R anything to compare....

I like the 50's neck, had a 60's but I honestly think the 50's neck gives a better tone and it just feels better. I have fat short fingers but I play the same on either neck, they aren't all that different. The 'New' Standard neck is unplayable to me, tried it, don't care for it.

I like both the 50’s and 60’s necks. My Standard has a 60’s neck, but the next LP I get I’d like to have a 50’s style/fat neck just for something with a fatter tone to mix it up.

My hands aren't very big, so I went with a 60s on the Standard, then I played the fat reissue neck, and it just felt more comfortable, then came along the 50s neck on the Traditional...Stick a fork in me, I'm done. 50s all the way. :-k

50's followed by the reissue in all honesty when I played the new standard felt like a 60 to me asymmetrical was nothing I even felt after a minute or so. I guess I don't care very much as long as it's not a 2x4 sized classical neck or a overfinished sticky new Rickenbacker finish I'm fine with it

I can't vote because I like 'em all.

Over time I've found myself less particular about neck profiles, and more interested in the musicality of the instrument.

I really have no preference as I tend to switch around to different guitars with different shapes fairly often - LP, Strat, Tele, SG Jr, etc. - and they all feel pretty different. However, I do tend to favor my Strat; it's a 57 RI.

I've always preffered the 60s over the 50s. About two weeks ago I walked into GC and played the new 08 Standard, and thought it was nice, but i didn't compare it to the others. last weekend I tried it again and then compared it to an 07 Standard 60s they had. I think the new 08 Standard neck will not go over well with people who like the 60s neck. All the people who voted for the 60s neck above will not be buying the new Standard. I think Gibson took a huge risk trying to only produce one neck for the new Standard that will satisfy everyone ... It won't work.

I think they went with 2 guitars, the Traditional and the Standard, as opposed to 2 necks. The voting on the Traditionals so far has been overwhelmingly positive.

But I agree that it is a pretty big risk going with the new neck style, given their past success.
