Stargazer Posted August 14, 2008 Posted August 14, 2008 I'm about to purchase my second Flying V (a nicer one than my Faded) and I'd like to get a stand that keeps the points on the body from touching the floor. Around 20 bucks is good; spending any more than that on a stand seems stupid. Any suggestions? Thanks!
pickypicky Posted August 14, 2008 Posted August 14, 2008 I have my V on a regular guitar stand and the wing points don't touch the floor. I guess I just fluked out and got the right one.
MGrd Posted August 15, 2008 Posted August 15, 2008 Get a stand where you can hang the V (but not where to put onto).
ibis Posted August 15, 2008 Posted August 15, 2008 The double Hercules stands are good but a bit above the $20 budget. Worth a look mind.
Hydra26 Posted August 16, 2008 Posted August 16, 2008 i use the herc stands myself. Don't let your guitar sit for a long time on them though, I found with my v (it was a few eyars old so the nitro should have cured) that I got little dimples in the clearcoat where it rests on the stand. Mind you, this is from sitting on the stand for a couple months. So I try not to use stands for anything other than temporary stuff.
NeoConMan Posted August 17, 2008 Posted August 17, 2008 To say it was a few years old so the nitro should have cured is a mistake. The nitro never fully cures, it will react with any sort of foam. White cotton is the only true safe material, cut up an old towel. Around 20 bucks is good; spending any more than that on a stand seems stupid. Any suggestions? I have a suggestion; Spend what it takes to get a good stand. Going cheap and snapping the headstock of your guitar in a nasty fall is stupid. What's your guitar worth? I use Qwik Lok stands, but I bought 'em 15 years ago. Worked with my V, but I don't know if they're still available. P.S., Spend another $20 and put a set of Schaller strap locks on it too...

In any event, I don't leave mine sitting too long anymore and the "nitro-safe" foam has had a folded up polish cloth draped over it since I noticed the problem so I should be good to go. The stands are still very nice in my opinion, for what they are. And ditto on the schallers. They're sometimes tough to get your hands on (none of my local shops out to 150+ miles, i dunno about further carry them, online I've had places take my money and then string me along on availability) but they're rock solid and easy to use. They're on almost every gutiar I own.
