harmonicchaos
my les paul has been having a low E string buzz especially when i play it in a chord or if i strum it moderately. it just seemed to happen today and i wanted some advice for fixing it. it gets better when i loosen the string about a half step to full step but then it is tuned to low for me to play standard tuning songs! what are some ways to alleviate this. btw i checked to make sure that it wasn't the pickup or anything like that - it happens unplugged also- so it is a physical problem. and please don't say to take it to a guitar tech i need to be able to fix it myself. THANKS!!!
MikeRom
The buzzing goes away after loosening the string? That sounds bizzar! Two things that I would do - First check the neck relief and adjust if necessary, 1/8 of a turn at a time and let rest between turns. If neck relief is OK you may want to raise the T.O.M. a touch on the low E side until the buzzing stops. Don't forget to re-intonate after making any adjustment. Personally, if buzzing only occurs acoustically for me I ignore it if I like the set up.
kaicho8888
At what fret(s) does the low E string buzz? How low is the action from the bottom of the low E string on the 12th fret? As Guitarslinger mentioned you can adjust and tighten the trussrod 1/8 a turn at a time and check with a straight edge. The bridge might also have to be adjusted higher after adjusting the truss rod. harmonicchaos
it was buzzing at the first fret, but i changed strings and now the buzz is completely gone (i also raised the T.O.M a very slight amount). i'm a little shocked because the strings were about a month old but i guess that's what happens when you buy the cheaper ones. hopefully the T.O.M adjustment will prevent this from happening a month from now! oh well maybe my guitar was just having pms (although i don't know it's a girl for sure, i can't tell:-s)
MikeRom
All beautifull things are female as in, 'she's a beauty eh?' First fret buzz? My guess is that the old string set in the nut slot a little deeper that the new one you replaced it with.

DoubleSixx
Some times you get buzzing if you don't press down hard enough.
