buj818 Posted August 15, 2008 Posted August 15, 2008 Hi. Im a new fella here, and i have a few questions about this guitar and after days of searching other places for answers, i thought why not try here. I have an 83 Gibson Spirit which my grandfather bought for me brand new, but waited until my 9th birthday to give it to me. So after 18 years of playing this guitar, the pickups starting humming very badly. I tried my best to rewire them, but no luck. Now being that my grandpa passed away a year and a half ago, this is probably the most sentimental piece of property that i own. I cant seem to find out exactly what origional pickups came in this thing. The guitar is sweet as all can be, and i love playing it, but i just refuse (giving the personal circumstance) to put aftermarket pickups in it. Can anybody please tell me what origional pickups came in this guitar? Much appreciated and thanks! Brian
ben_easher Posted October 2, 2008 Posted October 2, 2008 Have a professional look at it. The problem may be that the ground wire from the bridge to the controls has broken. It's unlikely that both pickups would fail at once. By the way, the pickups are the 1959 Les Paul Reissue model (aka Tim Shaw). I bought one on eBay for $100 when restoring my 1984 SG.
