Murph Posted August 17, 2008 Posted August 17, 2008 Is that the word? Is that the spelling? Played a Standard yesterday, chambered, '08 serial #, but without the new stuff. Just wondered, with the new '08 with all the locking goodies, how many will have an '08 serial # but actually be a chambered '07, so to speak, if you know what I mean, and how that will work out for collectors in the future? Sheeze..... Nevermind, I need a beer...... Murph.
Thundergod Posted August 17, 2008 Posted August 17, 2008 I dont know man... but most guys here seem to care very little about the new standard... I want to see one in person before I made any judgements...
ChanMan Posted August 17, 2008 Posted August 17, 2008 I'm sure Gibson would never outfit an '07 LP as an '08 LP. Well, pretty sure.

They probably switched over to the new Standard in late 2007. I say this because not too long ago, I picked up a Standard at a music store and could tell it was chambered. Looked at the serial number and it was a 2006...late 2006. I have nothing against all the things Gibson has done to the guitar. My gripe is that they did this all to the model referred to as the Standard. The Standard should stand the test of time and be similar to a Standard from 10 or 20 years ago. It's called the Standard...not the guinea pig.
ChanMan Posted August 17, 2008 Posted August 17, 2008 Gibson's naming convention is, imo, irrefutable proof that Marketing is created and spewn forth by Satan. Or at least , his minions.
Murph Posted August 17, 2008 Author Posted August 17, 2008 Well, what I mean is, it had an '08 serial # and was chambered. But it did not have the clear plastic to show off the pcb, nor the locking tuners, nor the locking jack, nor the *** neck, ect. I held it in my hands, looked at the serial #, so this is not a rumor. I drove to this dealer looking for an R8, and they didn't have one but found this, and this guitar will go down in history as an '08 Les Paul, because of the serial #. But it's not like the '08's. You guys wonder why I drink? Just sayin'......... Murph.
Bluemoon Posted August 17, 2008 Posted August 17, 2008 I have a pre-new o8 Standard. I was thinking the same thing...will people think my 08 standard is a "new" 08 standard. Though, I am not sure I really care since i have no plans on ever selling it.

Murph Posted August 17, 2008 Author Posted August 17, 2008 Bluemoon, you have a Transition. It's the pre '08, (although the serial # say's it's an '08) chambered, (but not crappy pots on a pcb board, no locking this, locking that, ect, thingy.)......... You own a ? pound Les Paul that is the end of a LEGEND. Or not. I really don't know what to say. I'm a Gibson fan. I buy the T shirts at Opry Mills. I'm buying an Es335 in a few minutes. But........... Les Paul.? It's gettin' weird.
Tom99SS Posted August 17, 2008 Posted August 17, 2008 Well I went to GC today to get $20 dollars of free stuff (got a $20 gift card/letter in the mail from them so might as well use it). Tried out a new '08 LP (new neck, pots, locking tuners, etc). One thing about the neck I did not like, it appeared and felt to me that the center back of the neck is a little flat and not rounded like my 50's neck. It actually felt strange to me. Had good weight like mine (around 8.5 lbs) and was a little heavier than the regular STD that was there nex to it (what you are calling Transition with 60's neck in sliverburst, nice looking guitar I would buy this over the new '08). This is just my opinion of the new '08 STD. Glad I got my '07 STD with 50's neck.
fingers galore Posted August 18, 2008 Posted August 18, 2008 It's the pre '08' date=' (although the serial # say's it's an '08) chambered, (but not crappy pots on a pcb board, no locking this, locking that, ect, thingy.)......... [/quote'] I have a Standard Faded just like that. An `08 with the normal specs.
