Hey guys, I'm bored. Just a general survey, what is your favorite effect? Distortion not included. Pedals are included. I would definitely say that the Wah is my favorite.

(Univibe clones).

+1 - I love 'em too. I have the MicroVibe (VooDoo Lab) but am thinking about stepping up to the Deja Vibe since Fulltone's stuff seems to be so awesome. I will check out the ones you mentioned too, Rich. BTW, do you use the vibe a lot with the LP? I find I like ti with the St**tocaster but not so much with the Les Paul.

My other love is a lush stereo chorus but again more with the St**t that he LP - don't know why.

I have a crapload of effects, including several various ones that fall under "swirly" and I pretty much just use the Aquavibe these days including with my LP. It's just such a three dimensional effect and much more complex sounding than just chorus or phasing or tremolo; although, I do have some nice pedals that do those other effects including:

Analogman Bi-Chorus

Redwitch Moonphaser

MXR Phase 90 (regular Dunlop version)

Systech Phase Shifter

Roland Jet Phaser (not really just a phaser)

Diaz Tremodillo (old ugly one colored with teal and baby puke)

The ones above are all very cool pedals (well, the Dunlop Phase 90 is just "okay") and some, like the Jet Phaser, tend to be of limited use so I find that, for the pedal space, I get the most mileage out of the vibe although the chorus is a good utility effect that covers a lot of ground.

Tough, I use a little reverb on my fender amp almost always. But the delay pedal is my most utilized pedal effect. I use a digitech digi-delay. No complaints.

More thoughts:

Yeah, swirly effects tend to sound better with Strats or any guitar with bright sounding pickups, IMO, particularly if you go for more subtle settings as the high part of the sweep is more prominent. If you go for more over-the-top settings, any guitar will do.

I really can't say enough good things about the Foxrox vibes. I have a Captain Coconut 2 (Jimi in a box - Octavia, Fuzz Face and Vibe clones all in one badass floor pedal), an old floor mount Provibe and a rack mount Provibe along with the Aquavibe and they all pretty much sound the same. The Aquavibe, for a standalone vibe, is the coolest of the bunch as it's really compact and I *highly* recommend spending a few more bucks for an expression pedal to go with it. It has such a three dimensional, throbbing sound to it that makes the other effects like chorus and phasing sound weak in comparison.

The loopers expecially in the studio it's cool to be able to duplicate and lay things down without multi-tracking or recording.

Buts that second after the Zvex box-0f-Rock but rule said no distortion:-"

How about recommendations for octave effects (Rich or anyone else)? I figure eventually I must have one to get the full Hendrix thing goin' on. I listened to the samples on the FoxRox site, Rich, and the Aquavibe with the Octron sounded great together. I have been considering VooDoo Lab's Proctavia until now. Thoughts? Anyone have a great octave pedal on their board?

What Wah pedal do you own. And would you recommend it?

I can't comment on any of the other vibe pedals out there; I found the Foxrox vibe two or three years ago and that was it for me.

As for Octavia type effects, I have a Univox Supa Fuzz which is okay but I also have the Octron 2 which has separate switches and volume controls for octave down, octave up and uneffected and it's really good. The thing with analog octave effects is that they're pretty finicky about what you play - chords sound like total chaos and the octave up really works best when you're playing higher up the neck with a darker pickup tone. If you want something that tracks really well as opposed to doing the vintage routine, you might want to look into digital.

I don't use a ton of FX. I like wah when it's called for (Cry Baby Classic)' date=' and some chorus (Boss CH-1) from time to time. Most times, it's straight into the amp.[/quote']

I love the look of your guitar in your avatar. You should post some more pics of it. I love the color and grain.

I'd have to go with my trusty Boss Pitchshifter/Delay. I've had it for 20 years and still runs like a top.

Some amazing octave effects in there, plus I couldn't live without that damn delay.

+1 on the Boss Pitch Shifter. Very versatile pedal, and good octave effects too.

This bad boy right here...

I use it instead of a chorus. First off, it's an optical tremolo (the old photocell technology) so a great vintage sound. Second, besides the regular speed and depth controls, it has a hard/soft switch so you can set it as a full tremolo, then soften it up to give a more subtle "chorus-like" effect. Same with the full/half speed switch. You set your two knobs, then by using the footswitches you can get four different sounds out of it. Plus, the knobs are chunky enough to adjust easily with your toes. All this for only $179 canadian.

Hard to pick.... I really like some delay on a distorted tone, but for clean I sometimes use a little chorus.... Most of the time I use other pedals though, mainly Tube Screamer type or RAT circuit for distortion....

If you asked me this when I was a young fellow, I'd say the biggest effect was on my neighbours!=; - what was it they said?... Oh yeh .. 'Too Bloody Loud!' (I'm an Aussie..). These days, it would have to be a delay - any delay really ... Goes with just about any other effect.
