crossroadsnyc Posted August 18, 2008 Posted August 18, 2008 As some of you might remember, I wrote up a little review on a Gibson LP Traditional Standard that I purchased a few weeks ago. Some of you might also remember that I had a bit of an incident w/GC concerning how they printed my receipt with a serial number that did not match the guitar. To make a long story short, the incident w/GC really soured my entire outlook on the particular Traditional I purchased - I love the guitar, but the experience in purchasing it bled over into how I looked at my individual guitar... Over the weekend I gave some serious thought as to what I wanted to do - keep a guitar that angered me when I looked at it due to an unfortunate incident, or return it and purchase it elsewhere...I opted for the latter, but found myself doing something completely unexpected... After reading a number of reviews on here about the USA v. Custom Shop, I decided to take a peek at the 57,58,59 Reissues...about 30 minutes later I was walking out the door with the guitar I intend on keeping the the rest of my life, the 58 Reissue. Like the thread title says, I just fell in love... Anyway, I love the LP Traditional, and though while I'm sorry about things having went the way they did at GC, it turned out to be a blessing in disguise. Unless I get a great deal on an original from the 50's, this is the last guitar I will ever buy. I know everyone demands pictures so I took a couple quick ones to post here...I'll take better ones when I get the time...right now I just want to go play.
DoubleSixx Posted August 18, 2008 Posted August 18, 2008 Congrats, looks great. Glad to read that in the end you're happy. Enjoy the new guitar.
Bluemoon Posted August 18, 2008 Posted August 18, 2008 Nice. Great choice. So where did you get her from?
MikeRom Posted August 18, 2008 Posted August 18, 2008 She's a beauty eh? So you prefer it over the Traditional (minus the receipt headache) ??
Tim Plains Posted August 18, 2008 Posted August 18, 2008 Good to see all my ranting and raving has had an effect on somebody. Cheers and nice guitar!!
Aaresz Posted August 18, 2008 Posted August 18, 2008 Congratulations! Glad to read that everything worked out in the end.
crossroadsnyc Posted August 18, 2008 Author Posted August 18, 2008 Blue, I went to Sam Ash on 48th St. There is a guy I know who works there who I have kind of a long history with in so far that we we friendly all the way back in high school - actually, he's the guy I went to my first Motley Crue concert with haha. They don't have the Gibson USA line there (which is the only reason I didn't get the Trad. there), but do have the Custom Shop stuff. It's all locked up too, so kids can't pull it down and damage things. guitarslinger, yeah, I do prefer it. I imagined it would be heavier than the Traditional, but it's actually lighter. It's right in between the weight of a Traditional and a chambered Standard. I think it's perfect. The comfort and tone just blow my mind...I have my amp turned up so loud that I'm afraid I'm going to get evicted Tim, it's funny you say that, because in fact, there is probably some truth to what you are saying. your postings came up a number of times so I'm sure there is probably a hint of influence there to at least give it a go and see what all the chatter is about. I'm glad I did, so I guess I should thank you a bit for the general recommendation. my smoke break is over...time to rock out.
HeadCase Posted August 18, 2008 Posted August 18, 2008 Congrats! You will have zero regrets.... R8s rule!!!
littlekenny Posted August 18, 2008 Posted August 18, 2008 wow man, that's beautiful. I'm glad your happy in the end

crossroadsnyc Posted August 20, 2008 Author Posted August 20, 2008 OK so you've had a couple of days with her now ... where are these supposed better pics? Hmmm? Huh? hahahahaha that's pretty funny - I've been enjoying her so much that I totally forgot. I'm in the process of selling a couple of guitars right now so I have to take pictures of them this afternoon - I'll take some additional ones of the R8 too.
chengin Posted August 20, 2008 Posted August 20, 2008 Why are there no plastic cover/top thing on the pickup switches on those reissues. I've seen a couple without them. The originals would have had them on surely. Nice looking guitar, great colour. I presume it a big price jump from the traditional.

Thundergod Posted August 20, 2008 Posted August 20, 2008 Congratulations man! Very good looking guitar, hope you enjoy her very much.
