Silenced Fred
Seriously, if anyone wants to just post "Oh here goes Fred again... blah blah blah" unless its in good humour and makes me laugh But, any recommendations for a boost? Preferably one that won't break the bank? I'm working with another guitarist, and we kind of have a Raconteurs thing going on, me playing the Jack White role of course and I am getting some ridiculously amazing sounds out of the clean channel up past around 3 or so, but would like a little more. I have heard some good things about the EH LPB-1 and have heard its very very cheap, but any other recommendations? Stay classy Gibson Forums
cabba2203
The BBE Boosta Grande - only $48. "The Boosta Grande is a transparent clean boost that is designed to produce up to 20dB of clean gain and benefit the player needing more volume or gain without changing their tone." The EH LPB-1 is around the same price. Both are good. Also, if you have a spare Overdrive, just turn the Drive down low and crank the Level, this will utilize it as a signal booster rather than a driver. That will cost $0 since you already have it. ChanMan
Price range? Cheap to me is a Boss Blues Driver at around $100 Cheap to you may be a Danelectro Pastrami at $
Dub-T-123
I may be a little biased but IMO the best boost is the ZVex SHO. You can buy a clone for like $40 pretty easily. Way better than anything else for that money
surfpup
Lovepedal Amp 50 and COT 50 work for me. Not so cheap though.
ChanMan
Well... yeah. I like my Chandler Tube Driver, but at $300 it's not what he's after.
surfpup
Well... yeah. I like my Chandler Tube Driver, but at $300 it's not what he's after. I sold my vintage Butler Tube Driver on eBay last month and only got $150 for it, btw. Prices aren't what they used to be on those.
Silenced Fred
Well, around 50-70 bucks, because I'm going to probably end up getting two. My little mind is turning...
Dub-T-123
So let me get this straight.. You're looking for a clean boost right? You're getting a lot of recommendations for overdrive pedals. ZVex SHO is pretty much the ultimate clean boost. There's a reason everybody clones it and not really any other boost pedals. I've heard a lot of good things about that EHX pedal too. It just dawned on me that everyones just going to recommend the pedal that they have and that's what I'm doing. Seriously though. SHO clone. The new ones were, last time I checked. Glad to know the used ones are coming down. I'd rather not lose mine, even though I rarely need it these days.... it's still what I gotta have when I gotta have it :) On second thought... I am probably thinking of the new Butler's with the gain adjusting pot on them. Never-mind....

Yes. My amp overdrives pretty quick which I love, right around 3 it starts cracking up nice and sweet. I mainly want the boost just for solos. The thing is, more gain just gets lost in the mix, and I just want a good boost. I'll have to look up the ZVex SHO then. Since its ZVex, I imagine its pretty pricey, but if its worth it, then I'll start pinching pennies
ChanMan
Volume pedal? Just a thought from outside the box.
surfpup
The aforementioned LPB-1 should do the job for a clean boost too. I have not played the new one, bit I owned a vintage LPB-2 for years and it could really bring up my level for solos.
Silenced Fred
Volume pedal? Just a thought from outside the box. I have thought about it, but I kinda like boost pedals and it won't take up as much space. I'm trying to downsize my pedalboard... Going mainly to leads now, and I don't need all of the space filling effects I'm gonna to a GC soon (or Chicago Music Exchange if I can swing it... ) too look at pedals. BTW, my friend who might be playing rhythm never listened to White Stripes or Raconteurs, and he said that maybe I should look at the Digitech Whammy if I have ever heard of one... I like him already

The Vexter series are made in Taiwan and cost somewhere around $170 new. The hand painted ones are made in America by my main man Zack and cost about $240 new. $240 is too much for me for such a simple pedal. If that was the only way I could get one, I'd pay the $240. But here's the deal.. The hand painted ones go for around $170 used on average. The hand painted ones have a lifetime warranty that completely covers them new or second hand. The Vexter series has a one year warranty.. You can buy a broken used handpainted one and get it fixed for the cost of shipping. So If you pony up for the used handpainted version you don't have to ever worry about it breaking down and then you have to pay to get it fixed. Then there are the clones.. You can buy one from a good builder for like $40. They usually originally built it for themselves and bought the nice high quality components because the components are inexpensive. So you can get a top knotch clone which sounds exactly the same for like $40.

Witmer
If you're just looking to jump out for solos, and you don't need extra gain for a special "boosted sound", you might try an EQ, so that you can juice the mids only.
djroge1
Let me suggest you put in a little work and check out BYOC's Overdrive 2. It has a boost but it also is a replica of a TS808 tube screamer. After all, you are trying to downsize your board and this would give you 2 pedals into one. Actually, it gives you more but you can only use the boost and one overdrive at a time. $95 + shipping for the basic pedal. $8. for the MOSFET conversion which I recommend. Silenced Fred
I'm looking for recommendations. I like the cranked amp and a volume knob pushing it as well. I know what boost are out there, just wondering if anyone here has good luck with any in particular

I just finished building one last week and used it at band practice for the first time this past Tuesday. The boost does just that - it boosts the signal. There is no tone shaping on the boost just volume. It has the added benefit of the tube screamer too.

I'm gonna look at their stuff, never messed around with soldering stuff together, so a Confidence Boost may be on order for me soon. I always thought it would be cool to make my own pedal and stuff like that. Thanks for that man, I meant to reply off of my iPhone, but I forgot to hit post message. It sounds sweet as hell
chase1410
Fulltone Fat-boost3 I think its like 120-130$...not cheap but not horribly expensive either...does exactly what it's name states.
