Spiritinthesky Posted August 20, 2008 Posted August 20, 2008 Hope its cool to leave this link…(a lot of these guys played a Gibson). If you could bring a dead rock star back to life for one gig, who would it be? John Lennon, Jimi Hendrix, Elvis, Kurt Cobain, Buddy Holly, Freddie Mercury? Or someone else? This Day in Music are carrying out a world-wide survey to see which dead rock stars people would want to see again - for one night only! Who would you pick? You can see a full list and vote on http://www.thisdayinmusic.com
GKingN Posted August 20, 2008 Posted August 20, 2008 John Lee Hooker, seems like quite the character. And is this qualify as spam?
Spiritinthesky Posted August 20, 2008 Author Posted August 20, 2008 Its not spam, I did say I hope its cool to leave the link. The site wants as much feedback as possible to publish the results of the poll. A drummer is leading at the moment!
Tim Plains Posted August 20, 2008 Posted August 20, 2008 I'm not one for ressurections. Btw, wouldn't they smell?
Bluemoon Posted August 20, 2008 Posted August 20, 2008 Keith Richards...wait, he already has been resurrected a few times.
slimjimdom Posted August 20, 2008 Posted August 20, 2008 I'm not one for ressurections.Btw' date=' wouldn't they smell?[/quote'] You'd have to spend days trying to explain to them where they are and what the he** is going on. A Robot Les Paul? Whats a "Robot"? But in the spirit of fictional entertainment. I'd say Bob Marley. I'd really like to sit and see that guy play in a laid back jam setting.
jmjohnson Posted August 20, 2008 Posted August 20, 2008 Buddy Holly. Most of those other guys had a good run, although still short - Holly was just getting started.
surfpup Posted August 20, 2008 Posted August 20, 2008 I haven't looked at the link yet - but I can tell you who some of mine would be... (pretty much sticking to guitar here) Jimi, SRV, Paul Kossoff, Clarence White, Toy Caldwell, Steve Gaines, Gram Parsons, Randy Rhodes, Joe Strummer, Rory Gallagher, Tommy Bolin... I'm sure I left out someone important to me since this was off the top 'o the head.
NeoConMan Posted August 20, 2008 Posted August 20, 2008 In complete agreement with Surf Pup with one addition. Steve Clark of Def Leppard. Don't laugh, any ability to rock left Def Leppard with his death. Check out High n Dry with him and Pete Willis dueling on Les Pauls. Another favorite of mine was Doug Hopkins of Gin Blossoms. Not really a rocker, but did some good pop/rock stuff.
Tim Plains Posted August 20, 2008 Posted August 20, 2008 You'd have to spend days trying to explain to them where they are and what the he** is going on. A Robot Les Paul? Whats a "Robot"? You're absolutely right! I'd probably just get frustrated at the guy and end up killing him again... Btw slimjimdom, that isn't a real Les Paul in your avatar. :) Who does that remind you of... lol
Thermionik Posted August 20, 2008 Posted August 20, 2008 L5Larry beat me to brother Duane..... So maybe Janis Joplin. Call me wierd but I loved that girl.
surfpup Posted August 20, 2008 Posted August 20, 2008 Duane Allman Told ya I forgot someone important to me!
Murph Posted August 20, 2008 Posted August 20, 2008 Scotty Stoneman. A fiddle player. Jerry Garcia credits him saying, "I got my improvisational approach from Scotty Stoneman, the fiddle player, who is the guy who first set me on fire. Where I just stood there and don't even remember breathing." Garcia wrote much more on the Scotty Stoneman, live in L.A. cd/album. He was the Jimi Hendrix of the fiddle, and in 1965 I think he started a whole lot of this stuff. Best of luck. Murph.
crossroadsnyc Posted August 20, 2008 Posted August 20, 2008 there have been so many good choices on here - I especially like the Rory Gallagher call. I'll add Mike Bloomfield to the list...he's not my first choice, but I've been listening to a lot of him lately, so it's kind of fresh in my mind...very underrated and not discussed enough.
canon_mutant Posted August 20, 2008 Posted August 20, 2008 Unfortunately though they wore the Fender badge proudly, the names Hendrix and Vaughn come to my mind first. Hendrix for what he started under the conditions he started it. Vaughn for showing how to literally attack a guitar. All of my favorite LP players are still with us, thank god.
Aaresz Posted August 20, 2008 Posted August 20, 2008 Btw slimjimdom' date=' that isn't a real Les Paul in your avatar. Who does that remind you of... lol[/quote'] I almost miss jonston/jonst0n...............almost!
cvansickle Posted August 20, 2008 Posted August 20, 2008 Paul Kossoff, John Entwistle, Alan Woody, Eric Carr, Randy Rhoads, Carl Perkins, and Bon Scott!
cookieman15061 Posted August 20, 2008 Posted August 20, 2008 I'd take 2!John Lennon & George Harrison. Yes sir.
rjay777 Posted August 20, 2008 Posted August 20, 2008 Jimi. I have GOT to hear what he would sound like today with better amplification. .....not to mention an onboard tuner.
slimjimdom Posted August 20, 2008 Posted August 20, 2008 You're absolutely right! I'd probably just get frustrated at the guy and end up killing him again... Btw slimjimdom' date=' that isn't a real Les Paul in your avatar. Who does that remind you of... lol[/quote'] YES IT IS MAN!! It's a Zakk Wylde Flame Top Custom I bought from Craigslist :)
