Wild_Rose
it's a black Studio with ebony fretboard! you don't find them these days! I wouldn't mind the date! get it!!
swleary
Something doesn't feel right to me. Ebony's usually don't come with an ebony board. I would like to see a better pictures of the back of the headstock. I would either email Gibson customer service with pics (no bigger than 2mb) and the serial number OR call them 24/7. Wild_Rose
There were some Studios (wine red and ebony) with ebony fretboard around the 90s!
BigKahune
As has been pointed out, the ebony fretboard is unusual . . . but a killer all black look. Nothing is standing out to me, except the sides of the fretboard appear to be painted black, which is also unusual. On an unbound neck, you would expect to see (most of the time) the sides of the fretboard unpainted. Maybe it's a special run or has been modded. If you have doubts, Swleary has mentioned the way to go.
Cisca
the price it's 855$ (650 euro) and comes with a Gibson gig bag,not hard case. i know that in the first half of the 90' you can choose between rosewood and ebony fretboard, but i've always seen the ebony on the wine red or alpine white. i've never seen before a black studio with ebony fretboard. there are important differences between an ebony or rosewood fretboard? becuse if there isn't a big difference,i've found others Les Paul Studio,if this black studio is abnormal. sorry for my english. BigKahune
Ebony is closed grained and harder than Rosewood, which is open grained. Preference is a matter of personal taste - I prefer ebony fretboards, but own some guitars with rosewood. Wild_Rose says he's seen ebony Studios with ebony fretboards. I really like that all black look. Pick out what you like - you're the one who'll be playing it. B)
Cisca
thanks for the explanation. but the most important thing: is this Gibson original or it's a fake?
Wild_Rose
^it looks genuine to me. Wild_Rose says he's seen ebony Studios with ebony fretboards. it's a "she" actually :) btoth76 mentioned here that he had an ebony studio w/ ebony fingerboard! ;)
BigKahune
As I said before, nothing is standing out to me saying "fake". From what I can see from the pics, the headstock, position of the controls and switch, the pup screws, the bridge posts all look legit.
swleary
I did hear about in the 90's with ebony boards. Going by the pictures, it does look original however I'd always call Gibson with any used guitar purchase just for a piece of mind really.
rcscruff
Looks legit. I own a studio with ebony finish and ebony fretboard which I bought new in the 90s. So I can guarantee you that combination was available.
