Mike_EME Posted December 28, 2010 Posted December 28, 2010 J’ve got a 1967 gibson SG with a few mods up for grabs. Owner claims it’s an SG SPECIAL. It’s got replaced pickups [dimarzio] humbuckers and I have no seen the routing to check the route for enlargements, trapezoid inlays, a legitimate serial number dating it 1967 Kalamazoo, a Stop tail, an extra spst switch (I’m assuming a coil tap), and unoriginal small (as opposed to batwing) pickguard and unoriginal - non Kluson chrome style tuning pegs. Can anyone tell me if the Stop Tail was an option in 1967 on either the std. or any other model. also, is it possible that any other model besides the std. could have two pickup routing holes (or humbuckers or p90s) and also have a trapezoid inlay? I’m just trying to see what’s the deal with this axe. It’s kind of a frankenstein. I appreciate the advice! CHEERS!
SG FAN Posted December 28, 2010 Posted December 28, 2010 Sounds fishy, Specials didn't have trap. inlays. Pics would help us help you.
gearhead Posted December 29, 2010 Posted December 29, 2010 I HAD A 1965 SG SPECIAL THAT WAS MODDED WITH HUMBUCKERS, AND IT HAD DOT INLAYS. SMALL PICKGUARD, WHICH IS THE NORM FOR A '65 I WOULD BE CAREFUL ON THAT ONE. IT MAY BE AN OLDER SG, BUT NOT WHAT YOU'RE BEING TOLD. AND I BELIEVE THE STOP TAIL WAS OEM EQUIPMENT.
